What are some songs that either describe your personality, life experiences, or ...?

"Alone" by Heart. Always got by on my own and the realization that love makes us not want to be alone... yet to be ok with being alone is important.

"I Want to Learn To Waltz with You" by The Continental Drifters. Just about finding the perfect person.

"Closer" by Tegan and Sara. I like being closer, lol.

"You Give Love a Bad Name" by Bon Jovi. Just getting hurt in love.

"Sk8r Boi" by Avril Lavigne. Fits into my personality.

A lot of U2's songs.  Too many to mention.

Next to the Beatles, U2's my favorite band.  Mind you, I don't always agree with their political views, but the music is incredible.

The thing that bothers me about U2 is when Rolling Stone or whoever it was put The Edge in their top 10 for guitarists.  That's just silly.  They're a great band, but I am big on guitar playing so they're not really for me.  I do like Pride and I Will Follow though.

One of the songs I feel I can relate the most to at times is Subdivisions by Rush.  Great tune by a great band  Many of their songs would fit the topic I think.  Not necessarily that I can relate to, but many of their songs have deep messages/ideas.  

Don't want to hijack the topic or start a debate, but I totally disagree with you. The Edge is should be in the top 10.....  I do agree with your statement concerning Rush & Subdivisions!

It depends on what you consider a great guitar player. Under my definition Edge is not Top 10. He is good from the songs he has played. However IMO it is all about working those strings, crisp/clear sound, and ability to speed play. There are a lot of excellent guitarists out there! Some people may feel a great guitarist is one who plays so the listener can FEEL it. By that thought, perhaps he is a Top 10 (IMO). I guess everything is subjective.

"Sunday Bloody Sunday" sure makes me "feel" and "see" the massacre.

There's a lot of guitarists with mind boggling technique, speed, great tone, etc...

and 99.99999% of them sound like absolute robots.

They wouldn't know how to craft a good song or composition if their life depended on it.

Saying a guitarist is good because of their technical ability is like saying a painter is good because they know how to use a brush.

If there is no art it is meaningless.

"Layla" by Derek and the Dominoes (e.g. - Eric Clapton).  This was the ultimate erotic rock song of my teen years, and can still make me horny umpty-two years later...

Edge is certainly respected by his peers, but I don't think they would put him in the top 10, or the top 20 for that matter. I mean, first of all, when you are talking about great guitarists, you have to put Hendrix and Clapton right at that top, and I doubt that you'd find any modern professional musician who would argue.

Of course, everyone has their favorites, but it's hard to talk about a "great guitarist" list without mentioning Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Stevie Ray Vaughn, BB King, Chuck Berry, Keith Richards, Eddie Van Halen, Duane Allman....

Cobain is respected as well, but as far as being a great guitarist, not so much, but more as the total package.

A few of my favorites who are respected but not considered to be "Top 20" material include Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits), Robbie Robertson (The Band), James Taylor, and Albert Cummings (toured with Jimmy Vaughn and Double Trouble after Stevie Ray died).

I was in a small club one night, sitting with my back to the stage and talking to my friends when the band came out and started playing. After a while, I said "man, these guys are unbelievably good" and I turned around to see that "these guys" were Albert Cummings, solo, playing a 12 string.

And by the way, to the OP - "my favorite" also describes my life and my attitufde.
