Registering on FB as a provider makes about as much sense as registering each time you plan to use a hotel to conduct business.

How do you search for escorts on Facebook? I just saw an article that said upscale escorts rely on Facebook more and more.

actually i avoid folks with a facebook presence. it attracts too much attention from folks who are hobby hostile. part of my screening is that if a business email for an escort shows up as linking to a facebook page, i won't see her. i think it indicates a lack of discretion. others may disagree, of course, YMMV.

purely personal, non biz related facebook pages aren't a concern.

But I haven't looked. My hobby computer is not allowed on to social networking sites. They carry to much risk of exposer as they track everything.

Because that's a pretty silly thing to say. That ladies are relying on the Internet, and using Internet-based social networking (such as Twitter or blogs) for marketing, sure, but actively advertising on Facebook specifically? I don't think that's accurate. I'd love to see the writer's source.

Which makes as much sense as ... any self proclaimed "expert on sex workers" can make.

You're right, the facebook connection makes no sense.  Also, I was active in Manhattan in 1991 and the map of "red light" areas doesn't even come close to what I experienced.  At that time, the entire area from 34th St. to about 50th St. on 2nd and 3rd Aves. was like one giant cathouse, but you'd never know if from the "map."

are bullshit, WTF, there are hundreds of experts right here. I would put what anyone here with 5+ years of experience has to say over any of these so called experts.

Just sayin

Looks like his previous Economist article repackaged. I see he's still being fed half-truths, exaggerations, and outright lies from his "sources".

"I estimate that by the end of 2011, Facebook will be the leading on-line recruitment space."  LOLOLOLOLOL. Review/discussion sites everywhere are shaking in their boots, I'm sure.

Yup!  That's just the way the media is...easily led.  If you know any business from the inside and read media coverage of it you'll notice the same thing: oversimplification and half truths.

On the bright side . . . oversimplification and half truths are a VAST improvement over how P4P is normally portrayed in the media.

...well, thinking I fit *any* of the common stereotypes!

I appreciate his intent, I just wish what he published were more accurate.

It's not even as good a promotional tool as myspace was! I cant imagine what they do to get the word out, they are complete nazis when it comes to trying to add people they dont think you know!

I have one, but its for friends and family, only... I would sure like to see how other girls would use it....

Remember....everything that is posted on FB is public to all.

and kids and the hobby is a very dangerous mix.

I would never do any hobby activity on such sites.

The only thing I think it would be used for is an inderect advertisement. Oposed to a provider having a personal website wich I'm sure is more secure. Or just another marketing tool to get some pictures out I have seen porn stars on facebook that provide, but they are allready in the public eye. I wonder if you could upload a ter banner, on FB and post an ad on a regi board doubt if it would get through, you know no website no posting I'm sure some one has tried.

So you friend your ATF on FB...  for all your friends, family, coworkers, employers to find!!  WTF?

I've had friends requests from unknown women on FB.  I immediately block them.  The last thing I need is some indiscreet girl I've never met planting the idea when I've been carefully coving tracks with those I do see.

I do know my ATFs real name.  I did find her on FB.  WE decided to NOT FB Friend each other per above.

I have not checked FB for a providers e-address but I agree that it's dumb.  I don't use my hobby email for anything else.  I don't use my correspondance e-mail for random notifications.  When I started, I promised I'd not do anything stupid.  It seems like I learn new things very often.  Thanks TER members.

This is a bit different, but I have a few FB friends that work at the Bunny Ranch and appear on Cathouse.  I guess it makes a big difference when it's legal, but I read their comments and they'll indirectly tease a guy about coming out to visit 'em.

There is one provider in the DC area that I'm aware of that has some rather provacative photos on FB and will post occasionally that she's working in this area this week and another area the next week without saying what the "work" is.  But, I'm sure 95% of the people that see her FB site would not put 2 & 2 together unless they knew from another source what her occupation was.

i don't know which provider in DC you refer to, but the possibility of outing oneself to other clients via FB friending has to be considered.
