Considering current events(Hastert), how might a hobbyist with a 5K+ per month cash budget make it happen without running afoul of the law.

There is zero obligation to inform anyone what you do with your money if it's been legally declared & taxed.  When the bank asks you what you do then honestly answer your occupation as it's listed on your tax return, and they can fill out their cash transaction report (CTR).

If the police want to ask you then you still don't have an obligation to answer unless they are filing charges, and then you bring in an attorney to answer on your behalf.

Perhaps you like to leave it sitting on park benches for homeless people to find, or driving down the highway and throwing it out the window.  Maybe you bury it in coffee cans in the back yard.  Just don't destroy (burn, shred, ect) as that's a crime.

Altering your transaction history to try and avoid triggering a CTR is called structuring, and that's a felony by itself.

Just shut the fuck up and let an attorney handle your responses if there's charges.  If no charges then you don't have to respond.  When they tell you an honest man has nothing to fear, just smile and ask if they're detaining you or are you free to go.  Then leave; otherwise STFU

Why would you spend $ 5k a month on hookers?  I guess you're seeing the hot young ones that I see too.  I still don't spend that much even thought the young girls are really into the sex.  They like the young guys too.  Some of the girls talk about liking living on the edge.  I guess that's OK, but I'm up for a promotion and want to not blow it.  Be careful who you see.

30 years, mainly from ATMs, and never once had anyone from my bank or LE inquire as to why.

I think the Feds look at certain people of interest more closely, and that's why high profile individuals get caught this way.

Most of us can just relax and take heart in knowing that your more likely to be killed by a meteor falling on you than having your finances investigated by the heat.  In truth, it's your SO who is more likely to get wind of this.

Not uncommon to move money between accounts after you made a capital gain. Of course don't forget to you can't spend it all because of taxes.
