I'm not talking about the risk of getting caught by either LE or the SO, that's always there to some extent. I'm talking about the risk and the danger that TER helps remove from setting up the session.
Don't get me wrong. I wouldn't trade TER for anything, and when my cooler head prevails, I appreciate the risk avoidance that it helps me obtain.
However, sometimes I just miss that element of the unknown danger or risk that was part of my hobbying for years. The heart pounding (in addition to the anticipation still there) and little lump in the throat when picking up a truck stop chick, setting a session through the Yellow Pages or local Fuck Rag, or the occasional troll down the SW stroll.
I'm somewhat of a danger junkie (skydiving, bungee-jumping, and barroom staredowns (all before the last heart attack)), but none of that matched the danger I encountered in the Hobby from time to time. In my hobby career, I've been mugged a couple of times, ripped off a few more, and encountered some other fucked up shit that had me seriously wondering about my future. Although I really don't ever want to relive those things, I learned from each and every experience - about myself, the hobby, and life in general.
TER has been a Godsend, and I know that I will never really slink back to the dark side of the hobby again, but I miss it a little.
Anyone else?
DC.
Hello Fellow Hobbiests,
I have made my contribution for the team for just about a year now. Been a member for years. Giving honest candid reviews of my experiences with good and bad providers. And I know have saved alot of other Hobbiests from making mistakes. Read my reviews from ken_lin1233 .
But, what happens when you can't find a review of a provider let say on cityvibe.com or euros-, backstage, etc? I know the obvious answer is don't be that gueny pig. But, some look real.
Could they all be scams? Why aren't there bad reviews of them?

I had too many not-so-good experiences with the Yellow Pages and Local Fuck Rag before I found TER. I don't miss that kind of risk at all. Just my 2 cents...
I spent years picking up street walkers and then going to AMPS and other various brothel type of settings before I settled on nice safe GFE encounters with women I know or can at least trace here to TER.
I've had my fill of adventure. I realized the night I was looking for a parking spot near my favorite little brothel. An unmarked police car with two detectives in it passed me, pulled up in front of the house I was going to and knocked on the door. They spent about ten minutes questioning the guy who ran the place (as I watched from about fifty yards away)and then left. I didn't go in that night and a couple of nights later the place was busted.
I'm not a danger junkie, just a horny old fat guy...
Non-TER hobbying would exceed my personal level of acceptable risk. That coming from another adrenalin junkie. I didn't start in the bad old days, but if that were the only choice, I wouldn't hobby.
I prefer the MUCH safer mutual scoping out that TER provides. The ladies are safer AND I'm safer.
I picked up a trick in the 70's and went to a brothel a couple years later.
Bad experiences. Strictly "stone age" compared to now.
I'm MUCH happier with my choices now and the whole experience is far more satisfying for ALL concerned.
I get my adrenaline rush from the ladies now.
But at my age, I'd feel silly standing in the middle of the hotel corridor in my tighty-whities.
Just stick to toftt.
With fear or anxiety the adrenalin goes up to a high level, and the blood vessels constrict. With excited, on the other hand, the adrenalin level comes down to a moderate level and the blood vessels open up. I'll take excitement over fear any day.
There is a whole group of men who discuss picking up street girls. I used to a very long time ago. and for them the element of risk seems to be a big part of it.
I couldn't disagree more. I'm sure there are some guys who got a "danger thrill" out of it but the simple reality is that, back in the day, pussy was cheap and plentiful on the streets of Boston. I was always cautious and never got cocky about the danger involved. As the city finally cracked down and started busting guys along with the streetwalkers I moved away from the street scene.
Before the Net, my action in this arena was mostly SW's, and there were plenty of interesting moments with them...to say the least. Not that meeting every new lady from TER isn't also exciting...but it is just different.
Then again, I have to live up to my namesake.
I really don't understand the "excitement over the risk." Why is this any fun at all? I guess there are somethings that I will *never* understand.
TER (and other sites) have allowed to enjoy meeting new ladies in a (relatively) safe manner. Why would I ever want what I had before? Scouring the local sex ads... that's fun? Really?
I guess this is sort of akin to those guys who still love to pick up streetwalkers. To each their own.
I probably never would have jumped into this little world if I hadn't found TER or some other similar site. I would have been too anxious and nervous to even attempt it. Also, the vast majority of my preconceived notions regarding prostitutes and their clientelle (had never heard the term 'provider' before TER) were either negative or so widely outlandish that I discounted them (can anyone say, "Pretty Woman?"). I learned a great deal by lurking on these boards for quite a while.
Now, with all that being said, I can see where you are coming from - especially if you are by nature a risk taker. TER greatly reduces the adrenaline that accompanies the thought of showing up and having no idea what to expect. For better or worse, our little version of "Consumer's Reports" has allowed us to get more for our money, but it has also taken some of the thrill out of the hunt (so to speak).
Maybe some day, I will venture into the unknown by responding to some TGTBT Eros ad or calling up some BP girl advertising a $100 special at 1:00 AM, but not right now. I have all I can handle with these ladies as known quantities :-&
I hope you find a source for your thrills. Just be careful about dancing too close to the edge! Maybe you could take a vacation to Somalia or something?
The only option when traveling was the local yellow pages and local papers. There were certainly disappointments when I opened the hotel door to see a dog, and that time I got basically robbed in Dallas, but also many really pleasant surprises and experiences.
You basically became your own TER by using the providers and agencies you could count on.
Nice Excerpt from the article below:
One client points out that before the Internet, “there was a somewhat lower quality in the hobby overall. Ladies are now business women (much more like the days of the Old West)... smart ladies with advanced degrees are in this hobby, and they approach it like a business – and that is actually a good thing... it brings pride in their work. It also provides escorts who care about their customers/clients.”
From the male perspective, the Internet is definitely safer than things were 10 years ago and more. One gentleman said, “I definitely feel the Internet benefits the men, and is relatively safe. Because if a certain woman were a cop or a rip-off, indiscreet with client info, or just bad at what she does, word would get around the review boards and the discussion boards quickly. While I’m aware there are Bad Client Lists (BCLs) on the EO [Escorts Only] boards, I don’t think the Internet protects the women as well as it does the men.”

There is still plenty of risk. There are escort blacklists full of "hobbyists" who are TER members who have assualted, ripped off, or raped escorts.
