Thanks for the help, everybody. Those clues threw me into TER mode, at first. With the remainder of the puzzle, the "handy slot" is maildrop (not "vajayjay") and "Miss Kitty's friend" is Matt (Dillon) (not "dildo" or "hobbyist"):

maildrop    (handy slot)
agree       (go along with)
thorn       (sharp spine)
tans        (gets some sun)

(Miss Kitty's friend)
(Ottoman title)
 (hair curler) --- more TER answers?
  [lers = last 4 letters of a longer answer)
   [den = last 3 letters ...]

I gotta remember that these newspaper puzzles are supposed to be G-rated.

For 45 years I lived my life blithely without a concern for having to do a certain task each day come what may.
