Many years ago I worked on a project where we developed a new kind of indicator, dubbed Contract-Intensive Money. To make it easier in writing and reading the report, we used the acronym after the first definition.

Just yesterday I read the paper again for the first time in years, looking for a specific reference...and couldn't help but notice the big bold capitalized CIM spread all over the report text. I was laughing out loud and my colleagues had no idea why.

This place and hobby have really warped my little mind.

Provider has a different meaning in my work world so every day I grin at that word while no one has any idea why I'm grinning.  I worry about the lingo of the hobby becoming so natural that I'll slip up one day at home or work!

thankfully my name does not appear anywhere on that page and I was not a co-author in case anyone decides to investigate that link more fully. Nice.

CIM - Cimitarra [Columbia]
CUM - Cumana [Venezuela]
PEE - Perm [Russia]

How's that for a travel plan?
"I'm going to PEE and then CUM and finish off with CIM"

back when I worked in Nashville, our cute little receptionist would answer the phone with the acronym for our department (Management Information Services) or MIS.  So all day long whenever the phone would ring, in her sweet southern accent, she would say "MIS".  It caused me on several occasions to stop dead in my tracks because it sounded to me like she was saying "IN MY ASS".

It was a chain in Detroit owned by Jews (Meyer Jewelry to be exact). All the mangangement and sales people were Jews. Only the clerks and janitors were Gentiles. When I'd write a receipt for fixing someone's watch I'd write out WATCH REPAIR. When it was a piece of jewelry I'd abbreviate it as JEW REPAIR.

They liked me so I got to keep my job after they noticed.

LOL.  Right out of high school I did income taxes for a storefront tax service.  I did the return for an Asst. Manager but I abbreviated it "Ass Manager" on the form.  She corrected me.

I thought this meant the currency had been handled by human hands, tucked in g-strings or otherwise dirtied and germed up.

My company uses acrononyms like crazy.  GFE and PSE are two that I see almost every day and without fail, my mind diverts to the hobby immediately whenever they come up.

I love it when an Exec or presenter uses the terms in a sentence like "If we don't improve our PSE capabilities we will lose customers to the competition".  If they only knew.... :)

New chain restaurant just opened up near me.  It's called Mitchell's Fish Market.

I was there last week and as I'm browsing the dinner menu, I look at the headings; Appetizers, Today's Fresh Catch, Chef's Specialties. . . And then I come to "MFM Combination Platters".

My mind instantly thinks; "Male/Female/Male?"  LOL  Just so happened I was there "on business" and had to explain why I had chuckled with my friend.  : )

I had to think for a while before I realized MFM was just their abbreviation for the name of the restaurant.  : )
