It seems like the chat room is broken, every time I have checked there it has been empty until several days ago when I found kenescalade02 there and it has shown that he has been there for days.  I don't think he is there though.  Looks like another glich to be fixed for the new "improved" TER.

I have been using Chrome exclusively for quite some time and not really for TER reasons.

However, I have not ever been able to ever get onto the chat function. I click on it and nothing happens.

I do get into it using Firefox, but there is never anyone there besides one name, "kenescalade02" and that is for days.  So I don't think they are really there either.

Firefox, but it is annoying as hell..but it does work..try it..see what happens..good luck

I have no problem getting into the old/classic chat room but cannot access the new crap site. And before you advise me to relax my pop-up blocker, thanks anyway, that is not the reason.

I have stumbled into the room on the classic site recently and found two or three visitors that I spoke with but realize that the entertaining, busy chat room of the past is gone. People just are not using it like they did before the change over.

When I answered back my messages were echoed two or three times..  .I don't like repeating myself.

if you are using chrome to access the "new" chat..

make sure that the pop up windows are allowed..

check your address bar in chrome.. is there a little white box on the right side??

click on that. This is the control for the pop up windows..

BTW. .pretty much nobody is using the old chat. .so if you go there. .probabaly you are by yourself..

the two chats do not co-mingle.


The latest versions of Firefox and Internet Explorer have focus issues with the new chat.  When ever anybody sends text in the chat window.. these two programs will automatically shift focus to the chat window.. VERY annoying..

so far Chrome and Safari seem to work the best. .IMHO

It now actually loads on my computer (SuSE 11.2 with Firefox) which is a start, but it has several problems.

Bug: changes my screen focus back to itself every time a new line is entered by someone. So I can't do anything else at the same time.

Bug: when trying to type a message, every time a new message from someone appears, I have to re-click on where I was typing and continue.

Lack of feature: can no longer use aliases
Lack of feature: providers can no longer post their web urls, etc. That sucks.

What with the focus changes and having to re-click and stuff, I gave up in short order. It's worse than a VT100 dummy terminal in terms of usability.

I finally got into the "new and improved" lol, chat room last night and spoke with a few who were not at all excited with the problems that they are experiencing but continued to use it anyway.

I went into the classic chat room several times lately and found 3 or 4 members who were still attempting to use the older/better room because it is still available without problems.

Why is it that people are unhappy in the new but not using the old while it still exists?

I know that the classic will not be around indefinitely but why not take advantage while its still possible ?

Just wondering.

When people are referring to "WE' or everyone I know they are not talking about me.

I have only used Chat via classic.

A wife, sometimes you can enter but most of the time you cannot even see whe you can enter.

classic chat still has the problems that made it almost un usable to begin with.. it still ramdomly drops lines to random people.. makes it tough to chat when you dont see a response.. and then get blasted by somebody for not responding..

the smiley system does not work.. you cannot put a parenthesis in a sentence.. it wont send...


AGREED!!  classic chat is a much better system then the new "improved" chat,  hopefully it will get fixed.. but..

since so few people will use it.. or even attempt to use it.. why should management bother??   for the 30 of us that try??  


we should just start an IRC channel and be done with it.
