Any tips on places to go or things to do.  Thanks

I have been to the Octoberfest in Munich three times.  To tell you the truth I rarely got off of the fair grounds.  Found a pension about two blocks away and used to wear a path between the pension and the fair grounds.

The art museum in Munich is awesome.  Esp. the rooms with the Rubens paintings.  He painted such big women in such big pictures that when you leave the room you feel like you have been pressed on all sides by female flesh.

The public gardens in the middle of the city are nice..and if you keep your eyes open you no doubt will spot some young people fu.king right out in the open.

Then there are the regular beer gardens, hugh halls devoted to beer drinking.

You can see what I remember most.  Have about 40 beer mugs that remind me of my visits there.

Well said Snownfire.  I'll also add that *if* you can find time, then I HIGHLY recommend doing "Mike's Bike Tour."  Simply awesome.  Yes, it's a little touristy, but you really get a good look at the city, and it's very laid back.

Munich is honestly one of my favorite destinations in Germany.  A lot of fun there.

sounds like a great time!!  I woiuld love to visit Germany in October..seems like the perfect time to go!

Personally October is my favorite month and then December!  But something about October with the crisp weather and the changing leaves is very comforting. :)

Bertchesgarten is just a few miles on down the road.  Its gorgeous and you can go up and see the 'Eagles Nest' that was given to Hitler by the party.  The foundation of his real house is there too but the house was bombed and then dynamited.

Its a little further as I recall but you could go over to Neueschweinstein and see Mad King Ludwig's castle that inspired Walt Disney to build Cinderella's Castle at Disneyland.

Its a wonderful area.  I used to ski near there and across the border in Austria when I was stationed in Germany.

PS: If you need some reality, you can go just north of Munich and see the Dachau Concentration Camp.  This was not an extermination camp on the order of Auschwitz but its sobering.
