Yeah, it would be cost prohibitive to make more than a few denominations available. It would increase upkeep costs across the board. ATMs exist to save banks money so they are not about to do anything that would increase operating costs. I'd love to see a machine that dispensed hundreds but I just drive to the bank whenever possible. I always book two hours so I can't even get enough out in one 24 hour period to cover my appointment.
Many of us use ATM's to fund our play time. In the US, most dispense $20's only which makes for a fat wallet. Then I go into the bank to get $100's. When I lived in the Netherlands their ATM's dispensed multiple denominations. Very convenient. Their currencies also were easilly differentiated by color and value. Do we have either a technical issue with our ATM's or are we "married" to the tradition of the greenback?
when it gets to be a pain in the ass---literally. I find myself with a fat wallet, with 35 or 40 twenties holding up one cheek of my bony ass. Damn, the things we go through for this hobby.
It's frustrating for me because I live in a very small town, and I'd feel uncomfortable going to the bank and getting hundreds once a month. I just deal with giving twenties.

Every Casino ATM I can recall using has dispensed $100's. Not much help if there isn't one near you, and of course they charge a stupid amount to use them, but still...
it depends on how much I withdraw. They (Citibank) have a $1000/day limit and if I get over $300, it dispenses $50s or $100s depending on the ATM and what it has to dispense. They always give $100 of it in $20s and $10s though so you're not left with all big bills.
I almost feel like the provider would be suspicious if I placed a thin envelope down on the table with 3 bills in it versus a fat envelope with 15 bills in it.
That being said, I've traveled around the world a bit, and though I love my country, we have some sorry looking currency.
