Regardless of how many stupid questions and obnoxious people you deal with every day...be polite, relaxed and friendly. I recently called to ask a question to an assistant who answered the phone for an agency. The girl I was wanting to see was at the top of my list and I had been waiting a while to see her. I called to ask a question and she was very rude and acted like I was an idiot for asking a very reasonable question. She was flat out mean on the phone and as a result I am hesitant to ever use the agency. On the other hand, another assistant is so cool and friendly (and always remembers me) that I use their service quite frequently and never have a bad experience. I think you can actually affect the ratings of providors sometimes just by making it easy and pleasant to book. Just my opinion.

I am an assistant who loves her job, and hence have even been mentioned in a review or two..are there others who have an assistant? And what could I do better for the clients to make there planning experience more enjoyable? We all know the first time booking is difficult..

Personally, I feel so much more comfortable talking with the person I'm ultimately going to see.  Since you're the "other person", I think it's imperative that I know that when I call.  Beyond that, polite and informative are all I'd ask, unless you're going to be in the room holding the camera...LOL.

Thanks for posting this question, Charline.

Strangely enough, I have not dealt with assistants very much in my hobbying career. However, whenever I have dealt with assistants, I could not help but "step back and observe" the assistant as she worked (on behalf of the provider and on behalf of me.)

It's the little things, I think. When I call to make my my appointment, the really great assistant gives me the impression that she is working for both me and the provider. She wants to get us together, and she fully explains the screening process that she goes through. She acts like we are old friends.

When I arrive at the provider's hotel at the appointed time, and call the assistant, the really great assistant remembers me "Hi Dave, nice to hear from you again. How has your day been? XXX isn't quite ready yet, she's in room 601, and if you give her about five minutes before you knock, she will be raring to go."

So it really comes down to a nice friendly voice on the other end on the telephone line. One that makes us ask the question "I wonder if she is a provider as well."

Be friendly on the phone and act like you remember the previous conversations when the date was set up.  "I'll be coming from across town."  If I call to say I'm in traffic don't reply with "I thought your office was around the corner?"  Once I called an assistant 90 minutes before a date to tell her the room number for an outcall to my hotel.  I got a call about 45 minutes before the date asking me if I had checked-in yet.  Dah?
