Another good natured rant, I hope!

I live in Arizona and I find this funny but at the same time annoying.  I always manage to laugh about it while cussing. Everyone knows the two call system which is frequently used. First call conformation, second call at major cross street for exact direction. Kiss of death, "You can't miss it".

Here is the problem. A lady will have her incall location somewhere in the valley. They by nature like discrete, secluded locations, no problem, good for everyone. When you call from the major cross street for exact directions you get something like this.

Exit the 101 on Donald, turn left and go to Shippley Lane. At the roundabout turn right and then turn left at the fountain. Park anywhere, I'm in unit 27. You can't miss it. Now I have learned for some experience that you can't call while driving to get these directions. You have to stop and write them down. When she rang off I reread the directions and penciled in 4 calls.

Humm exit the 101 on Donald and turn left. Is she assuming I'm coming from Phoenix or Deer Valley. I told her I lived in Deer Valley when she checked references.  Oh by the way there is no Donald exit. Donald is a major street but the exit for it is Adams and you have  to  drive on the side street past Adams to Donald then turn on Donald.  So I make my turn on Donald thinking Shippley has to be close by because I'm headed to the McDowell Mt. and there is no development in the McDowell's. At the end of Donald I make the second call for directions.

She was assuming I was coming from Phoenix and should have turned right on Donald. Next I can't find Shippley and when I do which way do I turn, left or right onto Shippley. When I do find Shippley the answer is obvious, it left. Shippley isn't a city street. It a lane inside a condo complex named Mountain View and it exits to Donald. It has a real stop sign and street signs inside the complex but it wouldn't show on a city map, it's just the entrance to the complex.

I get to the roundabout make the turn and look for the fountain, no fountain , third call. Oh it's in between two of the buildings and you can see it. She sounded pissed. Yea, retrace my route and see what looks like a fountain but there isn't anywhere to park except covered parking and that is prohibited in my state. Those are all assigned. Back to the roundabout for guest parking. Walking back to the fountain I call again asking for directions to # 27, fourth call.

LMFAO - At least it wasn't "Go to the last red light in town and turn right, you can't miss it."
I maintain that no one can give clear directions and the more familiar they are with the area the worst it get. They drive it all the time and it is easy to them.

The exact directions should have been:  "South on the 101 from Phoenix, exit Adams, turn left on Donald. Go 400 yards and turn into Mountain View Estates. Park near the roundabout and walk to SE building complex. Unit #27 is 2nd level  NE corner. " She thought I was a dummy, and yea she was pissed. I told her she should charge by the calls.

All direction are fictional to protect the guilty.

...ran along similar lines but for two differences, which made for a more pleasant introduction:

1) a hands-free set. Bluetooth makes life much more safe and appealing for driving and talking.
2) She stayed on the phone to "guide me in" (always like a little help to find the entrance, sometimes ;). That way I have real time directions and then she walks out to the designated parking area to walk me in.

Just another nice personal touch that eliminated potential confusion and stress at the beginning of what should be fun playtime.

I might as well pick her up on Van Buren and save her the walk. LOL. Yea, HH it is. I always get lost or can't find the place it seems. And traffic sometimes can be a nightmare. AS for a GPS I have one Hiddenhills and I refuse to use it. It's a Tom Tom and I guess it works pretty good. But once I get an address in there I can't figure out how to erase it without erasing all the address. And besides my kid really knows how to use it and I can't ask him to manage that for me.

Better to cuss and laugh about it.

I almost didn't canceled. I was a bit nervous sitting there, but she did show up and had me follow her to her location!

:) Never a dull moment in the hobby!

HalfHour

When ever I have someone come to see me when I'm out there I take a book to read because I just know it's going to take hours for them to get to me given the traffic.

I live in Phoenix and have one. It really works, and you can put in intersections as well. And the gps really comes in handy when I hobby in San Diego, Las Vegas and Denver, cause I'm an incall kinda guy. BTW, you can pick up a gps at WalMart or Costco, they're dirt cheap.

for a two call scenario, is to pick a business address nearby and let the gent use that for his GPS (letting him clearly know that the business a bench mark and is in no way related). Then you can walk them in easily from there. At least the larger leg of the trip is under his control :)

You tell the truth, JL. Just yesterday a provider instructed me to to go right on 63rd avenue. I asked her if I should go north or south on 63rd, since she had no idea if I was traveling west or east. "North.....I think". I asked if she could just give me the address and let me find it. She then proceeds to give me the same worthless directions for 2 minutes and at the end told me the house number, 6223. I then repeated the house # and the last street I heard her say in her "directions" and she said "yeah, that's it!"

I've also had providers who don't even know the address of the house or condo they are staying.

I do it on my Magellan all the time.  BTW, ladies, have an address ready that is near your meeting point.
I also erase the calls on my hobby phone.  If it is ever found, it'll not have bread crumbs on it.
