I agree with you, completely.
First, I must say as a hobbyist I prefer to see a provider who has a website. Its informational and a good use way of introduction. However, I was researching LE prostition busts ( to know what area to stay away from) I notice that once the news outlets get a major bust, they incessantly show the website that is connected to the agency or to the provider.
My co-worker commenting on the "craiglist Killer" observed one victim had a website. My response, what difference does that make? She said that she was not doing it to make ends meet?
This is very interesting to me because my coworker is very nonjudgemental on these issues. Unlike most of by middle class surbanites see only black and white, she seeks out the gray areas and would be a typical possible juror in a trial because of that
So seeing that something like a website change a perception of a victim..how would it effect a jury pool in a trial?
Of course websites make for a better story for the media. They gotta show something, don't they. I'm no expert, but when you get busted, I doubt it would go as far as "jury".. or the judge basing decision on whether or not the provider has a website. Regardless of a website, I think screening really is what's important.
Actually it would be presented to a jury and the news coverage will taint the hury pool and make it more difficult to find "objective" jury. Also, the DA would use it as evidence in a trial since the website normally lists specific services
If you are a state senator, a celebrity, or you murdered the provider, I suppose it might.
how someone chooses to present herself. Even if someone else does the web site, the lady still decides what to use.
and I think the gist of the discussions revolve around the fact that presenting a website as evidence is very problematic for the prosecution because of the Fifth Amendment and the difficulty of tieing the site to the defendent because you have to find out who made it, who wrote the content, etc.
I guess if the circumstances were such that a big felony case was at hand, the prosecution could justify the expense of doing all the leg work necessary, but for a prostitution misdemeanor it would be a waste of time.
Bottom line was: Don't lose any sleep over it.
(still not a lawyer)
I fully agree from a legal standpoint and I am no lawyer either (1 year law school though) but that why my focus was on media coverage and how that would effect possible juries. I was thinking how my co worker views were effected by an ad on craiglist vs a website. No difference to me but I am a amoral hobbyist
My gut feel is that those who are prudish will find justification for their postition; but that a more open minded person may be swayed to accept sex for pay as a necessary part of society, if not even a postitive one.
I'd like to see what a poll would indicate.
that doesn't use any sexual abbreviations shouldn't be all that bad. If you say sex for sale then yes it could be used against you.
My thought is that you are already on tape once you are arrested. They usually video and audio tape a sting for court. Most ladies do plea bargin for a lesser charge rather than spend a whole lot of money fighting. We are talking misdemeanor here not murder or forgery.

One - how would this affect the craig's list murderer trial. and two - what is gained by hobbiest and provider with a private web site other then the usual escort mall style ad.
First, the craig's list murderer - we ALL know deep down that the defense is gonna kill the reputation of this lady. No matter her life in total, they are going to make him and not her, the victim. she is the messed up one, and not him. Her life was worthless - and he a med student -who only wishes to help humanity... got it? Be prepared for it. the media is gonna help the defense - why? Because it plays to sterotypes, sells news papers and makes folks watch the drival that the network passes for impartial news reporting.
so what should they report. A young woman who was an independant masseuse allegedly was murdered by a client. This was not the first murder that he is thought to have committed. End of story. Think they will broadcast that? NOT ON YOUR LIFE.
As to personal escort web sites.... I agree with most here. A lady will "Expose" some of her personality in the web site. Even if she uses the standard stuff they provide even that says something about her. personlly I love the ones that tell me a bit about the lady... her likes and even if she is otta my league, it gives me something to look for in those who are not. In short, it is a part of the experience to me...
One of the ladies I still harbor a crush on put her academic credentials on her website as well as movies (mainstream) that she had appeared in, and the fact that she was a hypnotherapist... She was really a great provider! fun, spontaneous, and a big baseball fan. Still think about her.
I'm not sure how ANY business can function these days without a website. It's like asking if your office REALLY needed a copier in the 80s or a computer in the 90s. It's a bit like lawyers: their ubiquitous nature makes them essential.
However, you question if personal escort sites are a "good idea." In truth, the level of marketing in which we providers must invest time, money and energy makes me more than a bit nervous at times. We walk a fine line between trying to stay "under the radar" while still attracting clients.
Indeed, I cannot think of a single illegal occupation that advertises as freely as we do in this business. (The fact that the services we provide ought NOT be legislated is a different discussion altogether.) Print ads, yellow pages, CL, TER, BackPage, CityVibe, personal websites...many providers (including myself) really are rather blatant in our attempts to stand out among our peers. Unless one's client base comprises only regulars and their friends, providers have to put themselves "out there" to be recognized.
A personal website is just the splashiest of our tools, the type of thing that the media love to feed their viewers. If we had no personal websites, the reporters would zero in on advertisements placed on other websites. And if there were no web, they'd just crank up the copier and flaunt the most lewd photos they could find.
A good idea? Personal websites are a necessary risk is today's market.
I agree with you, completely.
