Get a prepaid card and just hand it to them when you check in.  If it swipes and is good for the security hold, then they won't usually question it.

For the future, get a PO Box at a Mailboxes Etc type place so that you have a street address.  Open a non interest bearing checking account at a national type bank and get a debit card tied to the account.  Then you will have a card to use that doesn't lead back to home, and a place to keep the hobby money when necessary. Good for paying for TER too.  BTW, other than online purchases, don't actually pay for anything from the debit card - just take cash out and use the card to secure reservations and hotel rooms.
