I apologize Rabbit21, I didn't see your post until after I posted. You're correct, this thread shouldn't be twisted into a political debate and I'm sorry if my post did that. YNH.
Although this could be construed as somewhat politically nuanced given some of the exchanges recently on this board, it is not at all intended as a political statement.
I would simply ask that you read the attached and refrain from the political discourse. Draw your own conclusions.
Given this Valentine's Day I don't think the woman who is the subject of this rather poignant occurence would object if all Vietnam Vets were to consider this as her "Valentine" to us, even though it was not intended for Valentine's Day. It goes well beyond Valentine's Day.
Try as I might to resist, my eyes got a little wet as I read through this.
I will say this and this only Jane Fonda did some terrible things during the Vietnam war. This thread was meant to honor a small act of kindness done to someone, please don't hijack it and take it away from what it was meant to be.

While being against the war isn't offensive, the way she went about it was. Even she regrets her actions while visiting North Vietnam during the war. In an interview in 2000, almost thirty years after the fact, Fonda admitted: "I will go to my grave regretting the photograph of me in an anti-aircraft carrier, which looks like I was trying to shoot at American planes. It hurt so many soldiers. It galvanized such hostility. It was the most horrible thing I could possibly have done. It was just thoughtless." YNH.
Having spent my time in the Nam, I await the day Hanoi Jane passes on. I'm getting a airline ticket and a 30pack of beer to salute her at the grave site.
Jane Fonda's actions in Hanoi bordered on treason, providing aid and comfort to enemies of her country. Her antics likely helped prolong the war, and I found them EXTREMELY offensive. She was (and still is) a disgrace to America.
I always go out of my way to thank a vet when I run into one, ESPECIALLY the ones from the less popular Vietnam and Gulf Wars as they didn't get the ticker tape parades when they came home.
