Question about Refusing To Whitelist a Past Client

I have a past client who says that he will write a glowing review on me if I whitelist him. I have not seen this client for well over 3-4 months since I had de-activated my account on a particular regional ad/review board that's based in Southern California, so I don't feel 100% right about vouching for him nor do I wish to see this particular client again in order to do so. He's telling me that he's going to post a review that I have flaked on him because I will not reply to his emails. Can somebody fill me in on what a provider is advised to do when she is being threatened by a client who she refuses to vouch for because she never thought he was entirely a safe guy to see (hence WHY she refuses to see him)? He says that I think I am too good to see him, money has changed me, blahdiddyblahblah. Can members of this board actually post a flake review just because a provider will not white list him?

But perhaps there's a way to get it removed if its bogus. I suggest you stick to your principles. If you're not comfortable white listing him then don't. And if you're not comfortable seeing him again  then don't. Outlier reviews happen. I for one am not making decisions solely based on reviews. Suspect I'm not alone. Good luck!

Technically, he can post a review because he saw you.  But that does not mean it's right or correct.  If he posts a bad review, you can always dispute it, or better still, post a response to his review.

It all boils down to what your gut/hairs on the back of your neck say about a client.  If you do not respond,  and he posts something negative, WTF?   What you say, might save someone else down the road.

IMHO, never submit to blackmail of any kind from assholes.  If they are an ass to you, guess what happens to someone else who might look to you for a reference and does not actually contact you for clarification

She said it has been over three months since he saw her. TER rules is a visit had to take place within the last three months.
Can he lie about the date? Of course, but you said "technically" he could write a review since he saw her.
Technically, he can get banned for threatening her with a bad review for no whitelist and offering a "glowing" review for a whitelist. I say she should report him and forward all the correspondence as proof.

And, yes, it's possible to have such a review removed here.  The provider can assert to Admin that the session never took place.  It's been done before.
I really wish people who don't completely understand the review system here would stop giving incorrect advice.
His advice about blacklisting is also wrong, in my opinion.  Blacklists are often used to mean Do Not See lists but are very different things.  A true black list is a site that gives personal info about clients and can ruin their lives.  This is not something that should be used over a fake review or NCNS, as bad as those things are.  True black listing should be reserved for clients who rob, rape, or extort things from a provider.

How would you describe "not safe"?  What was it that made you uncomfortable?

As for as the Whitelist, you should definitely NOT do it.  If he tries to write a bad review, you have a good shot at having it taken down anyway by forwarding your correspondence and his threats.  Other providers are relying on those whitelist references, so you would be putting them at risk.

I am with Dave, frankly should consider blacklisting him...

Good luck and stay safe,
Sparta

1) his behavior justifies your refusal to whitelist, when your refusal needed no justification.

2) No way should you whitelist this guy and help inflict him on someone else.

3) he might be bluffing. It would take him time to write a fake review and he might not bother.

4) Your reviews are stellar and you have a lot of them. One bad one wouldn't dissuade most prospective clients. Odds are one of your regulars would quickly post a white knight review anyway.

5) You can file a complaint with TER and his email string of threats should help make your case.

Good luck and you have my sympathies for having to deal with this scuzball.

Have you any idea how many providers will not only white list a guy, but will vouch for one they have not even seen just to get a good review in the beginning? It's absurd how much our lives are put at risk through bs references, which is why I don't rely on them all that much. Send all of his emails to TER in case that review does pop up. He is basically trying to blackmail you, and if you would NOT see him again not only do you not white list him, but you don't vouch for him period!

I think you should keep his messages as proof.  You should not white list him.  Angry people can be dangerous so try not to piss him off...  I don't believe there's a official time limit on white listing but there's no requirement to WL either.  May gals just will not WL.
I think I would contact TER admin & state this person has threatened you with a bad review.  That's quite specific.  If he does so, you'll have grounds to get it removed.

A "review" of a meeting that did not take place is not allowed...  a "flake review'.  Not a fake review.  If he writes a fake review, that's a violation & if proven, could get him banned.
