Question about providers within an Agency...

I'm wondering, does anyone know what the percentage is that an Agency will take out of a provider's rate. Like if a girls rate is $300, how much does the agency take??

the reputable ones in my neighborhood take half.

usually at least 50% and effectively more ... cuz unless she gets around on her own she has to tip her driver with cash (or 'grease his palm' some other way)

that's why i think one should always tip agency girls more (the ones who satisfy at least) -- not that one shouldn't tip indies, but if you had to limit your tips, it should'nt be with agency escorts ... plus one school of thought is that an indie's rate has her tip already factored in

The usual rate is 50% in the Boston market.

Some of the best agencies take 40% or less, but those are few.

1st L.A. agency: I made 20%, then worked up to 29%, a percent increment for every 10 successful bookings. I could not make more than 29%.

2nd L.A. agency: I made 70%, gave over 30%.

Now I am an indie. I work and make 100%. Tips and gifts make me feel awkward, but are very much appreciated. I guess I get shy, as I am not used to them. I prefer to have the ultimate reward of a client coming back.

I work with a well known agency in NYC and we split it 50/50. But if it is a credit card payment they charge the client an additional $100 which I dont receive any of. Also I pay for my own transportation to and from calls within city limits.
We do split hotels costs and on occasion they have paid for half my airfare.

If they take out half of what a provider makes? Sure, if the provider sees a couple of clients in one day then thats like 300 in her pocket but as an independant she would be able to keep it all...I wonder why their aren't as many independants.

Do most providers start out with an agency?

i start indie and never thought of working with an agency, i remember an agency contacted me a while ago, they told me we split 50/50 i was like no way! i can take calls, i can get a room, I can drive and i can protect myself. Why do they actually do for me?

and that switch and bait some agency plays may ruin my image !

Most providers probaly start out with an agency probaly because they are new to the business and agencies provide the experience that the provider does not have.  I have to admit that the split of earnings is surprising, I would have guessed that it was consistently 80%provider/20% agency.  With the splits that were listed above, a provider can do 3 calls per day to $300 and only have $450 to show for it, maybe there are things about the relationship that I have mis-interpreted in light of the infomation above.

website and other advertising. bookings. advice. connections to other girls. some level of protection; at the least, a person to check in with at beginning and end of session. some provide drivers, some have photographer contacts.

These are the reasons that agencies are good places for some to be... not everyone is interested in being a business owner.

Website and advertising can be a bore to many.

Connections to other girls, check in person and driver... in theory keeps you a bit safer and you may be less likely to become a loner (work, home, work, home).

Another reason to work with an agency:  immediate work.  If the agency has a good reputation, the calls will come in.  It is much more difficult and takes much more time for an indy to establish herself and to build her reputation... especially right out of the gate!  Imagine trying to do this without knowing about the boards and other on-line resources.

For many women, agencies are *the* way to go.

There are also many women (myself included) who don't like the thought of working for an agency... I want to be certain that *my* best interests are being represented, I want to make the creative decisions on all of my advertising, and I am not willing to just trust another person with my safety.  We do the extra work (potentially... many less appointments per "work time") but keep the difference in the fees.

Criminy, I'm doing a quick bit of mental math and figuring that some high end agencies around here must be doing pretty damned well.  So when will we see an IPO?

Some agencies charge $350 for the lady of your choice and take $50 to $75. Others charge $400 and take $120. If you get tipped, you're suppose to tell the gency and they expect 10 percent from that. Some prefer the sheltering of an agency while others prefer to alter their own destiny.
