PSA about porn sites....

While cruising some of my usual sites my computer got taken over by a really nasty virus.

Usually I can whip my computer back into shape by restaring in safe mode and running Malawarebytes, but that didn't do the trick.

I had a techie come over who is real good at these things and he said the virus is hiding everything on my C drive, and my CPU would have to go into his shop for a major ass reaming.  He said that there is a lot of this going around.

So, update your anti-virus and stay off the porn for a while till this thing blows over.

Fortunately I have this back up laptop.

I would invest in an external hard drive (or two) and backup files/important documents at least monthly too. This way if something like that happens at least u have most of ur documents/files/etc.

I get all I need from porn and shit from here.

All you fucking people are so fucking depraved and share your shit. It's a one-stop shop if you think about it.

Got a laptop backup also, and the iPhone gets me in all sorts of trouble at work, bwahahahaha! ;)

And I mean colossal.

By your reasoning, I should just get me a Google Chrome OS netbook or run Ubuntu.  No virus will EVER hit Chrome OS because there aren't any hackers targeting it. Anyone who has used Linux before knows that linux OS never have a virus issue.  These two OS are also fundamentally a much better OS compared to Mac OS or Windows.

Lets not forget the fact that Mac OS 10 architecture was shamelessly ripped off Unix as its foundation.

In fact, you can get the same exact performance for free by running Linux on a PC.

Of course, those who don't know this attribute the virus-free nature and performance to the mac hardware itself and cough up over 2x for a mac when it majority of the internal components consists of the same exact hardware from the same Chinese distributer that Asus / Dell / HP / Acer uses. Don't believe me? Look up who the distributors are. ;)

I have used Linux exclusively for a long time and have never had an issue. It's less expensive to run than either Mac or Window$, plus gives me a lot more security options.

I'm typing this from a Knoppix Pen drive boot that wipes the pen drive home dir when I log out and leaves no trace of what was done on the PC I used it to boot.

Try doing THAT with Mac's OS or Windoze. Maybe it can be done, but it will never be done for $4 -- which is what it cost me to do it with a pen drive.

which is the core of Mac OS X has been open source for a while now. Does that mean that other Unixes that use Free BSD is also "shamelessly ripping off UNIX?"

Nope.  Learn before you make statements like this.

By the way, there are *many* viruses that have targeted Linux in the past, present and will in the future - just like *ALL* other OSes.  If you think Linux is "immune," then you don't know what you're talkin' about.  Finally, Linux is *not* Unix (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux).  It is "Unix-like," but unlike OS X (which is truly Unix), Linux has never been Unix. You're blanketed statement that "OS X shamelessly ripped off Unix" is completely without understanding of what Unix is.

Wow... even on a "hobbyist site" you really cannot get away from lame ass PC vs Linux vs Mac debates.

And yeah, tell me something I don't know.  Everyone in the field knows the difference between linux and unix. But what difference does it make on this thread?

The number of virus incidents on unix or linux systems is dramatically lower than MS Windows.  If you can't agree with that then I'm not sure which planet you're on.  The reason why Mac OS is stable is because it is Unix based, same as how linux is unix-like.

The point is, guys who spew "Get a mac" statements whenever a guy with a PC is having problems is simply demonstrating his ignorance and that he's willing to pay 2x~3x for the same hardware when it's really the underlying Unix-based OS that is delivering the performance.

If you got money to blow, then it's probably better to get a Mac. It's a solid OS only because it's based on Unix platform.

... than to build their own machine, install an linux distro so on and so forth.  Most of us want to move on their lives and use something that works "out of the box."  That's not to say that I don't understand what you're saying, but in this day and age most of us don't care anymore.
