In two of my recent hobby encounters, the provider had a tattoo that featured a woman's name. I automatically assumed that the name was the provider's real name.
However, when asked, the first provider said her tattoo was her mother's name, and the second provider said that her tattoo was the name of her ex-lover who had died.
So..after thinking about it, I *still* think I was seeing the providers' real names. What do others think?
That it's none of your business. Who cares if it's her 'real' name. If she told you something else she obviously either is telling the truth or doesn't want you to know her real name. How would you hobbyests feel if we asked the same thing? Gee, who is this woman who's name is tattooed on you? Uh, nope, not gonna happen. Why? because it's a don't ask don't tell business.
are two entirely different things. Tats are usually expressions that hold some meaning for a person, are often displayed rather openly and frequently induce conversation. Happens to me with my tat all the time. I see no harm whatsoever in gazing at a tat in an admiring and inquistive manner and asking the meaning behind it. That is not even close to asking a provider her real name.
As far as providers asking that of hobbyists? You cannot be serious! xxmeowbabyxx, if I had a dollar for every time a provider asks to know a hobbyists real name I would hobby gleefully free for the remainder of my days...
But I might be wrong. Even so, it really isn't good form to root around for her real name, or give her the impression you are doing it.
I did see a provider who had her ex's name in large, black, block letters on her shoulder. That was disturbing at first.
And why do you care if its her real name, anyway?
He's a bit curious about it and he probably sees it as a riddle or a puzzle to be figured out. Why is it guys have such a hair trigger, knee jerk paternal response to be overly protective of providers under these perceived intrusions or transgressions. Sheesh! Lighten up!!!

I have been asked: my full given name, college attended, and full birthdate. Also, men have PM'd other men, and have asked personal information about me. Luckily, these gents knew it was odd, and notified me immediately. Privacy is a serious issue here. Hopefully, he's just curious. I do have to wonder why he cares, and it's difficult to determine intent.
A couple gents do know personal info about me (and vice versa). It's information we have shared through the course of our friendship.
Must be the reason to fill web forms with all my information. I suppose, some ISP, some where is keeping all the information very confidential.
I get chuckle, when I see that the information is kept confidential.

Why on earth would they tattoo their own name on their body? Do you think they needed the reminder in case they forgot?
I'm betting the name refers to someone else, whether the person they told you it referred to or not.
He had his own name in black, block letters, tatted on his body, extremely unartistic, but could only afford "Dan" and needed to go back to get "iel."
His justification was pragmatic-- not a matter of style. He wanted the police to be able to identify him if he died. (How about the last name, Dan?) Probably practical considering he was a guy in the family very likely to get himself killed by police, or doing something dumb.
The problem is, of course, police might just think it's really his gay lover. I wouldn't want to be in prison with that tattooed on.
I'm unable to say there wouldn't be a provider who judges things that badly, just that you probably wouldn't find one.

I wouldn't ask a provider for her real name. (Of course, they sometimes tell me anyway if I become a regular.) In both cases I just said something like, "nice tattoo."

I think tattoo removal is going to be a growth industry.
I get this all the time...I have a name tattooed on my breast and everyone assumed it was my name but that keep forgetting that right above it it says "RIP"... I had to start blurring it out of my pics because its really personal to me and I was tired of getting emails that said stuff like "Essence/***** or Essence aka *****"...
A child possibly, or in my case, an ex lover who died... Honest.
