Provider pricing on TER

My business has hit a slowdown and I have to limit the dollars spent on the hobby. I am surprised that a lot of the providers that I call are quoting a higher price than posted on her TER review. I know that the Staff updates the price whenever possible, but would anyone else benefit  from a separate "price paid" on each review? Maybe it could be noted in the General Details. Sure would save me a lot of phone calls.

Sounds like a great idea - you should post on the suggestions/policy board so that staff will see it.

I agree it sounds like a good idea, but may not be practical.  I believe Staff answered another post by saying that sometimes a provider may make a special arrangement with a particular client.  If the fee was less, and it was posted, everyone reading the review would then expect the lower rate for themselves.

The reviews should not be taken too literally.  Use them to get ideas.  But in the end you will have to communicate with the girl yourself, and as is often stated..."your mileage may vary."

I made this suggestion to staff a year ago. I also encouraged fellow reviewers to include what they paid in there reviews.
As you can tell no one has followed through.

I agree with the earlier comments. While on the surface, it's a good suggestion, the reality is you still won't be able to bank on it. In a capitalistic society it's the sellers right to offer what they think they can earn, but it's also the buyer's right to seek out the best product at the best price for himself. A lot of ladies, based on economy, client knowledge, and etc. will and do offer rates more reasonable then what's posted. However, it's best handled one on one, in my opinion.

Following your logic to its natural conclusion, no prices should be listed at all.

Prices (current, wholesale, retail) are listed all the time for almost everything we purchase, both goods and services. Not sure how provider pricing is all that different.

Following Mathesar's approach, if each client posted the price paid to an individual provider, you could see the actual price distributions charged by that provider, and also how they vary with time. From this distribution, you can readily calculate the mean and median charges. Outliers (e.g., discounted prices for favored clients) would readily be recognized.

Since pricing is one of the most contentious issues on these boards, certainly increased transparency on costs is something to be desired (see Enron & Arthur Andersen).

...while my little head often exerts a profound, and sometimes undue effect over me, it has not yet learned how to type.

well, just in case he decides to learn to type, let us not forget that merly ONE digit is necessary to employ the hunt 'n peck method.

(didnt mean to stray too far from the subject here)

I am a providers that stick to what is posted by TER and will never go against that behind close door. I am a honest provider just like I advertise. But if i were to up my fee TER will update at my request without anyproblem. How i know is because when i first got started my hrly fee $200 1hr- I email TER and explain the $50 increase and mention that some clients may  question it and they change it at my request right on the spot and emailed me to verify the update.

Thanks for the info.  Hopefully more providers will follow your example and keep their prices up to date on TER.  I have had similar experiences to OCsir.  I had checked out both TER and the provider's website and was quoted a higher price than was listed on either one of them.  I have checked back on some of these websites and notice that they still have not been updated after a fair length of time.  I do not know if they had just not gotten around to updating their prices or just felt like they had someone who was willing to pay the extra cost.  I certainly will change my approach when this happens in the future.
