But it's telling that you describe it as sucking rather than it not being for you, or perhaps stating that you do not understand it.

You seem to appreciate photography more than art, in a sense. Cot's painting is indeed beautiful and evocative of a moment in time that, if we can't directly relate to it we can ache for the lack of having experienced it, but as an image it relies on it's realism to reach the viewer rather than coaxing him into examining something from a different perspective.

Picasso's art is evocative on another level, relying on exaggeration and perspective to stir emotion.

One person might find Mahler's Resurrection transformative, another notes it as pleasant in passing but is brought to tears by Trent Reznor performing 'Something I can never have' and guess what - both are valid.

I'm frankly surprised at your comment in that you've expressed the notion in the past that all women are beautiful to someone - look at Picasso's art through those eyes and you might find it sucks a little less than you previously thought.

You gotta love him for being the big old HOBBYIST  that he was!  

He even went Saint-Lazare (a hospital/prison for sick/pregnant prostitutes) for one summer in the early 1900's.

You may not like it but that doesn't mean it sucks. It just means you don't like it.  People pay millions for his work and it hangs in museums all over the world. Nothing appeals to everyone. That being said, whether you realize it or not, his work is having an effect on you simply by causing you to post your negative thoughts here.  A reaction, good or bad, is all he was looking for...

baseball cards and rare beer cans.  And yes, if I don't like it, it sucks, to ME.  Just because there are people wealthy enough to spend huge amounts of money on a trophy doesn't make it good. In fact, I'm sure half of the morons who buy this crap don't even like it.  It's nothing more than bloated, wealthy, bragging rites to have one of his paintings in their bathroom!

I may not personally care for Pablo's work but it does make you think. Cubism still makes my eyes ache and my head hurt when I try to wrap my head around it -- but I still keep trying.

I do see the similarities to women -- how one man can think a provider is "hot" and I look at her and scratch my head, wondering "What was he thinking?"

BTW, any reviews of the hot redhead with the sword?;)

LOL, OK but I don't really see how that means much. Is there a shortage of wall space in museums or is it simply a matter of museum curators trying to display what the public wants to see...or, more accurately, what is popular?  Every McDonald's that opens uses up a tract of land that could have been a Sizzler...I just don't get it!

Here's one way of looking at it. You may not like a particular painting or artist, and sometimes the value is in how that artist impacted the art world or artists after them.

For example, I might not be a Beatles fan, and might not like the Sgt Pepper album, but I can appreciate all the styles of music and all the bands that were inspired by that album and created new genres of music based off of that album.

If someone offered me a chance to buy the original tapes of those recording sessions, I might not buy them for the actual music, but for the impact they had on the music world.

I can see an overall nice impression from the bold use of color ... but admit to being a bit stymied by the rest of it. It's clearly an attempt to portray lovers, but it excites no emotive response in me because I see no particular meaning.

I took the liberty of looking up some of his other paintings though; and there was one that I like because it gives an impression of beauty that I can appreciate. (Bouquet of Flowers)

Most of it though? It simply doesn't nudge anything in me.

I just love all of his chubby people that he paints and draws. In fact I have 3 hanging in my home from trips to Bogota. Everyone has their favorite artist, just like recording artists.
