I have been hobbying for a year in a city of 200k, and find the choices rather disappointing. Yes, there are lots of options, but finding someone young (under 30) and slim with her act together is impossible. I know every tom, dick and harry is going to reply how they have no such problem. But I would say that is the exception , not the rule. Unless you live in a big city , chance of finding providers to your liking are slim to none!
I'm in a metro area of just over 1M, and I still have to do the vast majority of my hobbying while traveling to other cities. Talent tends not to stay here too long, or to be flaky and unreliable, or unattractive. Once in a while I find a gem who happens to be visiting my fair city.
Now, there are certain benefits to being primarily a "traveling hobbyist." The danger of being spotted by someone I know, seeing me in public with a woman who is not my wife, are nearly nil. So I can feel free to enjoy dinner or drinks in public with a provider, without worry about the consequences. I would NEVER do that in my hometown.
It also prevents me from the temptation of hobbying too often and spending too much money. If I lived in Vegas or LA, I'd be broke for a variety of reasons.
The downside, of course, is that I don't get to hobby that often. And when I do visit a bigger city, time and money allows for only one, maybe two visits with providers per trip. So I have to do a lot of research; and if I have a disappointing visit, I feel like it was a wasted opportunity.
