Not a total preventative of course.

These things can be doubled edge if they increase risky behavior.

~$1 billion for a research isn't anywhere all that significant compared to the cost involved in treating the sick and impact on society leaving it uncontrolled. Get real.

Various government agencies (not just US of A) spend trillions on space programs, scientific research, etc... and all the information are available to everyone for FREE.

Sometimes it's based on the principle rather than profit. In this case, it could be more cost effective to treat people for free considering it's a fast-spreading epidemic in some countries.

I'm sure your city has a free medical clinic where you can walk in for a quick STD check up. Almost every major city has one. Lets not be myopic. Mitigating the impact of AIDS is somewhere at the top of the list for many.

Also some people may take this as its safe to have unprotected sex.IMO I believe AIDS meds should be able to be accessed easily.

These are PRIVATE companies bringing out these new drugs, how the fuck are they supposed to tell their shareholdes that they just gave away a billion dollars worth of drugs?

Please go back to being drunk, I would say you make much more sense, but that would be a lie, but you at least make a little more sense when drunk. lol

certainly there, it will still be a while before the implications will be felt.

Medical developments like these take time.

And usually come with clauses where the rights are jointly held or shared so I wasn't pulling it out of my ass.

I do agree that private companies aim is to make a profit.

However, in this case, the general direction to get rid of aids will most likely be backed by additional government funding and jointly held intellectual property rights to keep prices diving even lower. Maybe not free but majority are aiming to keep prices down in order help as many people. Just my drunk opinion of course...lol

"Prices could fall further and supplies increase following an agreement by Gilead, the leading maker of HIV drugs, to share intellectual property rights on its medicines in a new patent pool. The California-based group Tuesday became the first drugmaker to sign up to the Medicines Patent Pool."

If government (you and me) is going to fund it that's one thing, but expecting "for profit" corporations to betray their stockholders is quite another.

Have another glass of wine, I just uncorked my second bottle, so much for "any" sober asians around here. lol

There was also an article about 2 weeks ago, where a gentlemen who had the HIV virus, no longer has it. They believe that people who were immune to the polio virus, are also immune to HIV... many studies to follow.

I'll hand out medicine for free, in spite of having spent $600 million to develop it as soon as you peddle your ass for free.  After all, that's just 4 million half-hour appointments.  Fair?

This is a problem with folks (not just providers mind you) who feel entitled because they live in the good 'ol USofA.

Seriously, we are over 14 trillion in the shitter and people think we should just keep on giving things for free...Sheesh...grow up already and figure this out people.

I agree with you, but that's not the point. Sober Asian?  I only know two Asians (for sure) on this board and neither of them would admit to being sober.

just giving out AIDS meds for free.

AIDS self-administered meds have to be administered at strictly monitored time intervals. Some have to be administered to correctly to the hour.

With the greatest number of reported AIDS cases in Africa, the fact is most Africans with AIDS don't have watches or can't tell time or read number and count, in some cases.

Provisions would have to be made to provide time-keeping devices (clocks, watches) and education on how to tell time.

I agree with your premise in principle. However, the execution of your proposition is far from simple.

Now, I'm all for making money. Don't get me wrong. If it was up to me I'd have a printing press in one of my spare bedrooms throwing out c-notes all goddam day and night.

What I believe is if a company, a PRIVATELY owned company was so magnanimous as to bring out these new drugs for the betterment of a certain demographic and make them well, or at least well enough, the faith in their future endeavors would make their worth tenfold to say the least.

Think about it. This place is a perfect example.

If you book a 2 hour with a lady, and she gives you 3, who are you going to call the next time?

Her charitive example is basically a marketing tool as to her willingness to do what she has to do to keep and/or gain your business.

Kinda like nowadays how some big, bad oil execs are turning green. Yeah, it's the smart thing to do, feasibly, economically, and politically. Shit's gonna run out, then what?

You give a little, and wait for the return is all I'm sayin'... ;)

works especially well for illegal addictive narcotic drugs.

Give out a nickelbag for free. Then sit back and watch your customers pillage and murder to pay astronomical prices for a dimebag.

The illegal drug trade at its finest LOL.

Don't know how much truth here but in youtube the are plenty videos where is talked that AIDS was created to prevent sexual revolution and to force people buy condoms and corporate companies to buy expensive medicine.
When they check your blood and they find that your blood cells number decreased they determines you HIV and these "medicine" which are prescribed slowly starting killing your body.
Hard to believe but... I would love to :-D

it spells "Satan?"  This explains quite a bit, especially when you realize that Christmas is just a giant Satanic ritual!  Oops!  Maybe this should be on the P&R board.
