With the recent discussion about BBFS and with certain companions offering BBFS with proof of a recent, "clean" test, I was curious about where folks get tested these days.
Back in the day, I got tested through AIM Healthcare, before they closed. A "pen pal" of mine recommended Talent Testing and that's where I've been going. I'm not getting tested because I'm going "gangbusters" with BBFS experiences or anything but moreso as a sanity check, to make sure all is well. Also, I get a SARS-CoV-2 test along with the panel of other tests they provide in the "package". lol For whatever reason, the SARS-CoV-2 test is a throat swab instead of a nasal swab, which I found interesting. I feel bad for the person getting the throat swab because I had acute gag reflexes, so we end up playing "the game" of how much can they get before I start coughing and dry heaving in their direction. lol But I digress.... So, where do you get tested for STDs/STIs/whatevers?
My last test was thru Quest Diagnostics. Basically you sign up and pay online. Then select a lab in your area. I think they employ independent labs, so there are many around the country. The lab was a walk-in take a number thing. I do believe you could register online and get a text message when your slot came up. But I just walked in and waited.
I just go through my PCP. I highly recommend everyone who is a provider or client get tested at the very least once a year during your annual exam, even if you are diligent about condoms. I get tested every 90 days and use condoms every time. Not using a condom is of course your personal decision, but if you are not in an exclusive relationship you should get tested before, after, and discuss thoroughly with your healthcare professional to determine if forgoing condoms is the best decision for you and your health.
I used to get tested after ever encounter because I am extremely low volume it’s funny to see how far I have come as a provider. Lol. My primary care Dr is who I see for my STD testing. Long ago I used to utilize Planned Parenthood until they required you provide your SS # & real life information & they will not see you if you have insurance you must see your primary Dr. in order to get tested more, than once a year because of insurance you need a reason.
You order the test(s) yourself, go to Quest to get the blood draw, then healthone notifies you when you can log on and get your results. They also offer most other types of blood tests (cholesterol, testosterone, PSA, and many others - check their menu) and the procedure is the same. Prices are cut rate compared to dealing directly with Quest or LabCorp.
I do not do bbfs but I go to get tested at least once a month. The places I go to are my primary, planned parent hood, there are testing facilities that do free testing, online testing where they send you to a lab near you.
If you have a ANY Test Now franchise around you give it try. Its about $80 cheaper than Quest for a standard STD board. But your test will be done by Quest. They also email your results to you. I pay cash and a test panel currently cost about $280.00
All of these sites you will find use Quest or lab corp facilities. You will select the tests and lab you want and print the form that you will take to the lab. After you give your blood and urine sample, you start getting results in 24hrs and in a couple of days, all of the test results are sent to your account.
