Pink cloud?

One of my favorite customers and one of my favorite people died last Friday of lung cancer. I'll always remember the visits we had during business lunches but will always remember that we had to sit in the smoking section for her addiction. By the way, she was only 42 years old and left her husband of 6 months and two kids behind.

i'm very sorry to hear that. i too have lost someone cuz of lung cancer (and related secondary complications due to smoking)

i myself quit exactly 10 years ago from this coming New Year's Day, after some 20+ years of smoking ... yet i probably have the most rabid anti-(public)-smoking stance among my peers ... whenever friends are out with me they get spooked when we're near a (public) smoker cuz they know how capable i am to go off my rocker and practically assault them (mostly verbally)

i'm sorry, but i have ZERO tolerance for public smokers and if it wasn't for surveillance cameras (let alone civil and criminal jurisprudence) i would beat them senseless everytime their 2nd-hand smoke affected me personally, which it does in spades since i'm now severely allergic to it

i've said it before, but i think it bears repeating ... i actually have more sympathy and compassion for a heroin addict shooting up right in front of me than a nicotine addict smoking in my presence ... at least the junky's brand of poison doesn't end up in my blood stream

[deep breath]

before you knee-jerk and flame away with tripe about "personal freedoms" ... please realize that i'm talking about PUBLIC smoking ... what you do in your own homes (how you harm yourself and your children/pets) is your business not mine

In the nicest possible way, piss off.

Who the f*ck do you think you are? Laws have been passed making most of the world smoke free for you. If you see me smoking in public, HAVE A BRAIN and stay away. I've had my share of smoke nazis walk 100 feet to tell me that they have athsma. Outside. Duh.

Here's a compromise. I'll admit publicly right now that you are a far more noble and self-disciplined human being because you have managed to quit while I have failed. Now leave me alone.

Better make sure you know something about the guy that your going to beat senseless before you start. Sometimes things don't work out quite like you think they will!

Remember your words the next time you, drive your car, have a BBQ, use any aerosol product, cook with Teflon, spray your lawn, eat any meat or veggie product, use a condom, buy any type of jewelry, use any drug product whether it be legal or not.......I could on and on!

All of the above has an effect on the human body and our environment either in the use or production.

Hell your use of the computer to post this message is harming our environment.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, but don’t eat a turkey. After all it was most likely pumped with hormones and the toxic run off from the farms are harming the soil, rivers and oceans.

Joy Joy Joy!

Meanwhile the average age we live to keeps creeping up and up.  Relax people, start living your life, and stop worrying about when you will die.  I've seen Jim Fixx (a jogging health nut)drop dead at 42 from a heart attack, and I've seen chain smokers live to 90.  Minimize your exposure if you wish, but don't sweat it too much.  You probably wind up shortening your lifespan when you walk around angry and afraid all day trying to fend off death at every turn.  All people die, but they all don't truly LIVE.

Marcella,

I understand what you are trying to convey. I will never ask anyone to quit because I believe in personal choice, but...

Last May, I held my mothers hand as she died from complications of lung cancer. She smoked most of her adult life.

Smoking related inlnesses effects many millions of people every year. Not just those who choose to kill themselves by smoking, but the family members who have to watch them do it.

I agree, I take a risk everyday by just living. And there is a good chance I will die sooner than later. I am only asking that no one trivialize the risks of smoking.

I think Cheetahluv had intended his post as a farewell to one of his favorite people.  Also as a warning and reminder to the readers of this boards that smoking can lower your life expectancy and it effects not only you but your family and friends also.
I don't know how this started to get out of hand...Oh I know, Thanks singleton.  Looks like your talking about violence AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!
My condolences to you and your friends family Cheetahluv.

Im a non-smoker, but I think the laws are a little out of control.  As someone else mentioned, with all the crap we put into our bodies every day, a little second hand smoke is not gonna kill anyone any faster

Of course, i am glad that in enclosed spaces like planes and offices, i am not exposed for long periods of time.

Non smokers, lighten up!

but once again it bears repeating:

1. the attention span of a gnat
2. the reading comprehension of a child
3. the knee-jerk reflexes of a mule

don't worry if it doesn't make any sense ... those for whom it's intended will understand

It's been written and said that, of the items which can be legally bought over the counter, cigarettes is the only product which is harmful when used as intended.  Did you know that the tobacco companies add ammonia to cigarettes to make them burn slower?  That is only one of over 200 ingredients which are added to cigarettes. More than 100 of those ingredients are known to cause cancer.  However, cancer is not the biggest health problem related to cigarettes.  Heart disease is the worst of the problems.  I know that kicking nicotine is an incredibly difficult addiction to beat, but whoever tries to beat it, should keep trying until success is reached.
Second hand smoke is not only harmful to others, but it is repulsive.  If a person were sitting next to you drinking a scotch, and constantly splashed it on your clothes, you damn sure would not tolerate that behavior.  Smoke clings to clothes and smells terrible, too.  Just my 2 cents worth.

Marcella who put you on a pink cloud? Happy thoughts!

Smoking is gross and unhealthy. Driving is incredibly fun... and unhealthy... and on and on...

We get choices and live with em... and die with em. But I'm with you (mostly)... better to live life than lock yourself away... I love turkey.... gobble gobble gobble LOL

What you say is not entirely true.  Alcohol, when used as intended is harmful as well.  Every time you take a drink of an alcoholic beverage it kills brain cells.  After a few years it becomes pretty obvious who's been drinking a lot!  LOL.  YNH.

it's one big @sshole luv-fest i tells ya!  ... let's NEVER get rid of aliases ... how could we possibly have phun without them?

States should have used their tobacco largesse to fund smoking cessation programs.  Instead, it's being used to fund general revenue accounts.

We're all going to go someday.
I wonder if it's better to go when you're young or when you're old.

You want to live longer:

1. don't smoke
2. don't eat
3. don't wear certain types of clothes, that has dyes that can cause certain types of cancer (yes it's true)
4. don't have sex (if you have a heart condition)
5. just don't live at all.

What I am trying to say is that, everything that you do, hear, see, feel does have a cause an effect. So who gives a rat's ass that someone is smoking, if they want to kill themselves, let them, but you go ahead and enjoy your life and mind your own dirty, skeleton in the closet, business.
