May be a silly question ... but I am german and not used to local stuff.

But check with the locals for how they
are applied.

Worst case scenario is that you just go
outside to smoke.

Last November, the people voted to ban smoking indoors with 2 notable exceptions. It's still allowed in your own home, and in casinos. There may be more exceptions, I'm not sure. Of course, some hot-shot judge decided to overrule the people, and declare the new law unconstitutional, I believe the final ruling is the law stands, but is unenforceable, or something like that. Seems to me that the judge has committed an act of treason, but what do I know???   Anyway, your best bet is to look around, and do (or don't do) what everyone else is doing. (And they wonder why no one bothers to vote anymore!)

Maybe it was an act of "reason". It may have been deemed unconsitutional for many reasons. judges are not supposed to be purveyors of political correctness even though many seem to be inclined to do so. I don't smoke, but is it not ok to smoke in one's own garage, if the lights are off and the shades pulled down? If you don't like smoke I have a simple answer, don't go where people smoke. I'd rather they outlaw farting and/or arrogant people.

As a Nevadan, I can tell you that the law as passed is severely flawed in several ways (from a legal perspective).  It's currently being argued in the courts, and for the time being, it's being obeyed sporadically.  More importantly for a tourist is that gaming establishments are specifically EXCLUDED from the law.  The interesting side effect is that casinos are becoming more smoky than before, and it's driving more business to them.  That may help explain why the gaming industry supported the legislation so strongly.
