This is a theme that has been rehashed multiple times, but I need to vent real quick.
In the past two weeks I've seen four providers that had multiple 9/10 ratings for appearance, but were no better than a 7. I understand that YMMV, but am I the only one driving a Hummer here whilst most everyone else is in a Prius?
These girls all gave a fantastic performance worthy of 9+, but when it came to appearance, they were not "once in a lifetime" or "model material". I understand the desire to overcompensate on appearance to emphasize how wonderful the performance was, but for some of us more shallow folks, appearance really matters.
Personally, I write reviews for three reasons 1) to compliment a truly fantastic experience. 2) To warn others of a true disaster or 3) to keep/reup my VIP status. I don't write a review for every girl I meet, but I'm inclined to start just to keep things real.
Maybe it's just my bad luck, but are there really that many providers whose appearance is "model material" and "once in a lifetime"? Notwithstanding the two 10s in my reviews, even the phrase "once in a lifetime" pretty much exudes exclusivity. I dunno, maybe the lights were down low (I know I've gotten fooled with low lighting on more than one occasion) or the blood alcohol was a bit elevated, or maybe its that case where you meet a 6/7 appearance who was a 9/10 performance and the performance outweighed the appearance and your planning a repeat so you don't dare give the 6 for fear that she cuts you off. Whatever the case, after my latest run, I'm thinking that inflation is starting to get out of control.

The numbers are totally meaningless for multiple reasons.
--Reviewers ARE biased by performance, in both directions. Good performance makes the lady look better, bad performance makes her look worse. The statistics show a lot more 5/5s and 9/9s while a lot less 5/9s and 9/4s out there.
--And intelligent guy will probably see ladies who looks apealing to him, thus there is always an upward bias in the Looks scores. Why would I voluntarilly see someone if I didn't think they were attractive? The more homework I do the more I should have 8/8 or better evenings.
And if none of those explain it, then I'll just claim your definition of beauty is wrong and mine is right! 
or do you see ladies with no pictures available. See what appeals to you and then you'll be happy. If the pictures are old or a little to airbrushed then note it.
Either way each man has his own vision of beauty and that may or not be changed by performance. One mans body type could be a turn off to another and likewise age, legs, ass or size of boobs. Maybe he took his glasses off before she arrived so they wouldn't get in the way or using the braille method for his visuals he found less imperfections than you might.
To sum it up in this case a picture is worth a thousand words....forget the numbers, look at the abbreviations for services and go straight to the pics

The OP is just as guilty of "grade inflation" as anyone else IMO.
As many other members have opined, I just ignore the numerical scores. The problem of course is with providers that blur their pics, If you can't take the word of other hobbyists, and their are no accurate pics to go by, their really isn't much to go on.
I think all reviewers who "grade inflate" including the OP are doing their fellow hobbyists a disservice. Unfortunately I don't have an answer, only questions.

These are NOT the same by a long shot, as you succinctly point out.
I will look at the overall average ratings and deduce that a lady is attractive if she has consistent "9"'s. What this would translate (IMHO) is to a gal that I would "eyeball" in the grocery store setting. Below those values however, it becomes a bit thornier to determine if she is someone I would "crane my neck" to check out in that same grocery store. Using this analysis many of the 7 and 8 gals would be considered "nice looking"...but each of us has our own criteria for that determination.
The gals here are a cross section of "real life" overall. And to honestly believe that so many are at the far end (8-10) is just guys being "kind"...and for many of the reasons you discuss. As others have commented on the ratings by some reviewers, it would indicate that they give high marks for anyone that is simply breathing!
If you have a better method to review...I'm sure that TER is listening. But that has been discussed as well...and so far, this is the "best" method we have.
I've seen 1 provider who I thought was a "once in a lifetime" 10 and reviewed her accordingly. Her date chemistry with me may have slightly influenced my rating but she really is beautiful and would without a doubt turn heads in a bar or restaurant. Others agreed with me and rated her pretty much the same. I feel good about my 10 designation. The guy's who have multiple "once in a lifetime" encounters - I think, lead sheltered, and perhaps lonely lives and they need to get a little more real please!! We all know what a really beautiful woman is when we see her on the street. They make you look twice! If you have multiple "10's" you are sounding a bit desperate!
I pick carefully and have been lucky. My 8's and 9's are truly very pretty women and I tell it like I see it when reviewing them. They are all very attractive and have been rated the same by others but - once in a lifetime, should be just that - "ONCE IN A LIFETIME"! Just cuz you think she's HOT, doesn't make her a 10....... 7, 8 or 9 IS a complimentary rating!
Will I find another "Once in a Lifetime provider"? Maybe...........I keep looking but my hopes are not too high and that's OK with me. I hope to find women who are 8's and 9's judged so by guy's with a rating scale, similar to mine. Realists! A rating of 7 isn't a bad thing either if it's consistent and a performance of 8 to 10 along with it would be a very nice evening.
I'm sure all providers rate us.... and being overweight, sloppy, sleazy or geeky and smelly IS noticed. I'm sure they have a 1 to 10 scale for looks too and women know what an attractive man looks like.
It would be nice if all of us would just keep it real...........

Used to have lunch with some construction guys at this place that overlooked a casino pool. They would repeatedly make some comment about the hot chick "over there". I'd turn and think that they were fucking with me because I could never find the hot one. I've met both of their wives and while very sweet, they were not real pretty.

Now for that performance rating!!!! Years ago, it would have easily been a 10 on many an occassion, but alas..........the reason some of us hobby has come into play now. I saw a provider the other day and everyone rated her as a 8 to 10 across the boards. I rated her a 7 and 7 and she asked me to delete the review. Is that happening? Do hobbyists remove ratings that are really true and honest. I didn't say anything bad...I just said she was not my type. I even said she was nice, smart, and educated. I just was HONEST. One hobbyiest even TER PM'ed me and said thank you for being honest with the review. Makes you go...HUMMMMMMM? What is happening here. I thought the TER was an honest review site....not a way to inflate the values of these women. It should work both ways...
That's exactly what happened to me about 6 months ago. Then all of a sudden the review disappeared and the explanation was "unverified." So I assume she filed a trouble report and said she'd never seen me. On more reason to take the numbers with a grain of salt.
That defeats the WHOLE purpose for this website.......We need to ALL be honest here and post facts and if the women doesn't like it because it adversely effects business....it is what it is!!!! I think I might leave this hobby and website becuase of this shit. WHy are we here and writing reviews when they are NOT true and it they are get they taken down.
THe review process, with all its flaws, still works pretty well, at least for me. This incident was one of my few disappointments. Another had mixed reviews and I should have passed, so my bad. The rest of them have been great, even some unreviewed agency girls where I TOFTT because it was a reputable agency.
Wow, I just read that review and it didn't seem at all negative to me. You went out of your way to state she wasn't your type. Having met her at a M&G and seeing what your preference is I can understand that too. To me that's a good review, it doesn't turn me off to her at all but seems to be an honest appraisal that she's a cute GND type. I'm more likely to take your compliments in that review seriously than I would someone who's tripping over themselves to praise the provider. I understand that reviews are critical to her ongoing business but I think in this case she's being over sensitive.
Girls: do you understand that we see through these things and catch the relevant honesty more than we look at numbers? Or does experience show you to the contrary and a 7/7 impacts your volume of business?
I've observed that dudes tend to inflate the appearance score if the performance is off the chart. I have no interest in anal but have concluded guys are so crazy about babes that offer this service they often give a higher score that I consider warranted. However, some dudes seem to score certain ethnic groups lower in appearrance making me wonder why they see them in the first place [ probably the lower rates]. So , no , I don't think your post is off but we must always remember appearance scores are always gonna be subjective and influenced by many factors.

I just saw a gorgeous lady last evening.
My type is more in the area of brunette, 5' 2" and 115 lbs.
This gal is 5' 10", blonde and probably 130 ish lbs.
I generally score girls appearance that match my type higher than girls that don't.
This lovely lady though is also very smart, great smile and playful. This made her more attractive to me.
Also she has incredible dancer legs and a great behind. She made me laugh as well.
I did say that I normally score those cute brunette's higher, but every once in awhile, blondes do rule.

Appearance is in the eye of the beholder. It is not necessarily just looks, but a combination of brains, beauty and are they playful. Do they have that look in their eye's? Basically how well do they turn you on decides the appearance rating.
Performance is ruled to a degree by TER's own requirements, which admittedly they do not always follow when approving a review.
Lastly, I pretty much see ladies that average over 8.5 on TER or are UTR and recommended by close friends. There have been a few that I did not feel merited the rating, but not a lot.

As many on here have said they don't look at the scores. Everyone has different little things they like or don't like about ladies, so with the exception possibly of the wild extremes it is meaningless in the appearance scores and though the face is blurred a lot of times in the real pictures I doubt many guys actually take that into account when giving appearance scores. I look on the scores just like I look on scores on employee self evaluations, mostly meaningless but your forced by the system to put them in so I would not be surprised if most guys just copy the scores already there and even if your honest in your reviews since most don't care it would make little difference to anyone. I can see of no way for TER to ever get truly meaningful scores for appearance and the word description that go along with the number makes it even worse. What would make more sense has been mentioned before by Scoed I think. A score for how close to the available pictures a lady is. A median score if she is reasonably close. A plus if she is much better in person then can be photographed and a minus if the pictures are old or it is not really her. With one special answer for no pictures available and I wouldn't want to impose my views on beauty on you.
I don't want to link to any specific providers, for fear of having the post yanked, but all one has to do is take a look at some of the well reviewed providers that have 5+ years experience to see this inflation creep. Is it really possible that a girl that was an average 6/7 six years ago is now a steady 9? On some other planet perhaps, but on this rock 5-6 years on the road generally doesn't improve the looks of any ride.

Maybe not more attractive over time, but in come cases, when a lady first starts, she isn't quite in the "swing of things", she may be a 6/7, but her personality is sub-par... over the years, she matures, & actually starts to enjoy her job, & her personality & services show it, hence the higher appearance scores. A lady can be a 9-10 everyday, but have a shi**y personality, which would make her less attractive, compared to a 6/7 whose personality shines bright... just a thought.

Everyone has different taste maybe some like big girls some with no teeth shit I'd tried a girl everyone gave like an 8'9'10 I was thinking about walking out of the exit when I saw her then I wrote an review just for the mods to reject it because it was way off from the other reviews i'm not tryin to put people out of business just a piece of my mind
I think the bigger issue is how all the description categories on a profile are set by the first guy who reviews a girl. For example, saw a girl with some of the best boobs I've ever witnessed, but they're described as "droopy". Which, in my humble opinion, is completely crazy.
It'd be cool if for those descriptive values it showed whichever one was submitted the most in reviews, letting people vote on it. And if there's a tie, show the more flattering one.
It'd also be fun if a ranking system like that was used for the numbers too, averaging all the ones submitted, giving us 8.3's and stuff like that.
