going to the pharmacy and picking up a prescription, and they ask me if I know how much it is.  I always give them a smart-ass answer like, "No, but I'm sure you'll tell me."  But then I ask them if there are people who do not want to take their prescribed meds because of the price, and they always say, "yes."  There are millions of people that don't care enough about their health to take prescribed medications so they can save a few bucks, so we should NOT be surprised if there are also many who will forego recommended testing for the same reason.  The extra test you pay for may be the one that saves your life because they catch something in time to treat it.

They don't test for HSV-2 because the tests are considered unreliable. False positives are very common and the infection isn't considered very serious. I think 30% to 50% of positive results are estimated to be false. They had a lot of people running around and going crazy with fake positive results. The standard blood test used by doctors isn't endorsed by the CDC. Further, alternative tests, are usually needed to confirm HSV-2.

Why only concerned with HSV-2?  Recent studies are showing an increase in genital HSV-1.  

 
The below study suggests that the instance of HSV-1 genital infection is only 8% less than HSV-2.  

 
If you are testing for HSV-2 only and thinking that you are fully protected for bare sex then you may be mistaken.  Initially it was said that 1 was strictly oral and 2 was genital, but oral sex can cause each to spread accordingly. While that is still a more common pattern, a cold sore on the mouth could be HSV-2 and HSV-1 could cause an outbreak on the genitals.

Notice that doesn't test even as option hsv1 and hsv2 ..that's why I use for myself and partners stdcheck. They test for EVERYTHING.      including trich and MG.  

Side note ...I did fail one test ...........the performance test ! Lol
