Mac or PC?

I'm not wanting a flame war, just a census.

I'm all Mac all the time since 1984. Yes, I drank the koolaid.

I use Windows systems at work, but I only buy Apple products for home use.  The Mac vs PC debate is becoming moot, tablets are the future.   The question will soon be whether to buy an iPad or whatever junk WinTablet is out there.

The tablets aren't a fully mature product yet--the storage is usually limited.  On an iPad3, the max storage you can get (right now) is 64 gig.  I have a huge music library, about 40 gig.  Maybe you can trust the cloud (I wouldn't) or buy an external drive.  I'll probably delay buying a tablet till they bump up the storage.  --z

my stock trading and related programs don't all work on Mac.

I run Windows XP on my MacBook pro. Best windows laptop ever.

I am both, but I tend to lean towards the Windows side of things because of it's popularity in the IT tech world.

Most of the servers I have worked on are Windows Server based and a few are Linux based. I have only seen a total Apple server based setup twice in my experience, but I did not have to learn that because that was an unique situation.

... get an external 2 TB hard drive that is network wired compatible.

Plug the external hard drive into the open port in your WiFi router, now you have a "poor man's SAS" setup.

Dump all of your "important" stuff via the WiFi and you are good to go.

Just about any device can connect to that external drive via the WiFi and you can even play music straight from the external hard drive.

A valid point below, CN9. But you're a high-end user.  90% of the people out there use their systems for web browsing, e-mail, simple word processing, and music.  An iPad3 can easily handle those tasks.  Developers like you will eventually be a niche market for high-end systems.  --z

Although tablets are becoming more commonplace, I think laptops will always be a permanent staple of communication for the business traveler as well as phones because they are an all purpose portable device.  Also you can use a cd or a dvd with the laptop as well that is critical for learning or chilling when you want to listen to music or what a movie.

yea, i'm definitely a power user. I'm heavily into audio/video processing, not professionally, but more so then your average user. But then I have an iPad3 and I use it exactly as you describe it and I use my PC less and less for those tasks.

I just love Mac now. I was a loyal PC user until the new Mac Book Pro came out this year!
Besides, it's pretty nifty if you have an iPhone as well

Nothing will replace the good old computer, whether it is a desktop or laptop, mac or pc.

You get better value out of buying/making/building/customizing a PC than a mac.
When comparing a mac and PC with similar specifications, the PC was much cheaper.

For when they do their work in their professional lives that have certain programs loaded on it.  Also it is good for when you would be on the go.

The days of having a terrabyte of storage for each person in cloud computing is years away and it will NOT be free due to the heavy demand for people wanting humongous storage for the reasons you have mentioned.

Just to keep up with that kind of storage demand, someone would need multiple server farms and we both know that those aren't cheap.

It's all a matter of preference and your specific needs.

Been Mac at home since the late 80's. Only use PC's at work. My mobiles are iPhone and iPad.

I build them myself, exactly what I want for half the price

Mandriva Linux for home use and AIX at work.
