Many of you use paypal, There is a new virus going around that has the subject "important".  The email will come from paypal.com.  The attachment is usually www.paypal.com.pif , which contains the virus. As always, don't open up any attachments or emails from emails that you weren't expecting.  Also it might carry a link, DO NOT click on that link.

If you type in paypal virus on google search there is more info available.

I just found this file/virus on my computer which is then sent to everyone in my address book.

Please check your c: drive and subfolders for the following file:

jdbgmgr.exe - The file has a Teddy Bear icon. DO NOT OPEN IT.

Delete and then remove it from your Recycle Bin as well.

I don't know if this is a hoax or not but better safe than sorry. It is not detected my Norton or McAfee and sits quietly for 14 days before damaging your computer.

Hope this helps!

xoxo, Jill

jdbgmgr.exe is a system file.  It has always been on your computer.  It probably won't affect you one way or the other.  If you've already deleted it, don't worry about it.  You can restore it later if you ever see a message that it can't be found.  It is really only needed under specific conditions that most home computers don't meet.  Those people who do need that file should already know better.

The Anti Virus software guys work very hard at protecting us.

I'm not saying that they are perfect - they're not - but it
would be highly unlikely that you got info on a new virus
before they did.  It is their job to have their antennae
up and monitor these things and they do it well.

At least your post got some knowledgeable people to point out
that it was a hoax and pointed us to the anti virus web site.

Get a virus checker that does automatic daily updates and stop worrying about it.  (McAfee and Symantec make good ones)  These programs will alert you when I certain variant is rampaging around the world and tell you that you are covered.

You still need to be careful....  DON'T open any hyperlinks from email addresses you don't know (and be wary when a name you DO recognise tells you in a panic to click on some link.  Many hackers can now plant a virus that gets into a person's address book and email everyone in their address book with the person's name you recognise.)  Get spam software and monitor the junk mail folder carefully to make sure they are sending good emails to oblivion with the bad.  After a few months you will "train" the software to separate the wheat from the chaff.

If you think you may have been hit by something try the link.  It will scan your computer for free.  If it finds anything, it will over you a solution for a price, but often a misbehaving computer can act like a virus even when it is just glitchy software or hardware.
