On the P&R discussion board we began an interesting little chat about "middle class" as opposed to Middlin class, no class or classless....

However, that lead me to wonder what the stats were on "classes in America" (as opposed to the classless societies of England (thank you queenie and Chuck) or India....

Anyhoo, according to those idiot savants of data (the US Census Bureau) here are the facts, just the facts...

Less than $10,000-------8.00%
$10,000 to $14,999------5.90%
$15,000 to $24,999-----11.40%
$25,000 to $34,999-----11.20%
$35,000 to $49,999-----14.80%
$50,000 to $74,999-----19.00%
$75,000 to $99,999-----11.80%
$100,000 to $149,999---10.90%
$150,000 to $199,999----3.60%
$200,000 or more--------3.40%

Which naturally led me to wonder and ponder - does the membership of TER reflect the population as a whole?

While I believe that the political spectrum is somewhat similar to the population as a whole (neither conservative or liberal - rather equally representative of both) is the economic stratification similar or not...  Thanks be to TER - those mavens of the folks who hobby ....   they actually DID conduct a poll.... and lo and behold... with a couple of mouse clicks... INFORMATION just pours out of TER!  turns out- We are probably NOT representative of the population as a whole - but rather skewed....

In short - we are NOT the majority of the population as a whole.....   so we are not a part of the masses....   in short, we ain't middle class.

From the TER Poll Archive.
WHAT IS YOUR ANNUAL INCOME?
13%   25K - 40K
15%   41K - 60K
16%   61K - 80K
13%   81K - 100K
40%   Over 100K

points to ponder....
