The only time I wish I didn't hobby is when I see another story about girls being trafficked or otherwise being forced into the business. Without dredging up pain, were any of you ladies forced into the biz or turned out against your will by a pimp, boyfriend, father , cousin or whatever? Or did you make the decision on your own? It bothers and baffles me that it would be OK for man-man or woman-woman to marry (I believe in marriage equality BTW) but NOT OK for one consenting adult to pay another adult for sex.. States really need to take up this issue.

True mental illness i.e. schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, ptsd, etc. involve actual physiological changes in the brain that alter thought processes and the ability to comprehend reality. Also, after reading articles about how much $ agency owners get "caught" with when they get caught...I believe if prostitution were legalized and taxed, the national debt could be paid within one year. I went to the Asian agencies here twice. Beautiful ladies but they couldn't speak much english and I felt they may not be here by choice so I was done.
LE would be able to focus their attention on these issues. These are the issues that need true LE attention. Right now, a ton of money is spent in arresting consenting adults...
catching hookers and johns is much easier on them, vs. catching traffickers. Sad, but true. I doubt the focus would change because it is too much damn work.

I understand that some of the ladies here do pay their fair share of taxes on their lucrative earnings. However, I know more ladies that DON'T pay taxes than do, and they seem just glad to be able to keep things that way. I suspect that many providers would just as soon keep things as they are - with prostitution being illegal and donations being in cash, barter or payment cards as part of an underground economy - because it is more lucrative for them now without having to pay taxes on their relatively high earnings. In addition, some ladies I know then use their lack of a real job, or low earnings at a placeholder job to then claim various benefits and enroll in various public assistance programs, further scamming the system and undermining our economy. Even if one is not morally against paying for sex, some of these sketchy, shady actions being done by providers gives much of the public the impression that all providers are involved in a various assortment of criminal activity in additional to P4P at present. Unless these bad apples are policed up, then prostitution probably has a slim chance of ever being legalized because of its association with so many criminal elements - and not just the streetwalker variety of prostitute, either.

I'm not trafficking, but I have been subject to a lot of bullshit by working for an agency, err, pimp. I was sent into calls with just about anyone. They didn't screen at all. All they cared about was their agency fee. We had to work for tips. It sucked. This is why I don't work for agencies and have since gone independent.
However, there are many girls who are pimped out who won't tell you for the very reason the OP stated of not wanted to exploit them or know about it. But it is very pervasive throughout the industry. Most ladies get into the biz out of desperation for money or to support a substance abuse problem. Of course, most of them won't admit to that either. As long as the economy continues to go south and more and more women find themselves out of work or without any adequate paying job skills, more and more of them are going to turn to prostitution as a way to survive.
