I have been trolling/lurking this forum for quite a while, and have been picking up things that I believe have made my hobbying safer and more enjoyable. This is not really for the hobby-pros, but should be generally good advice. Pretty much all of it has been from this site through various posts. I thought simply combining the info might be helpful and improve others experiences.

1) own a hobby phone. This really is one of the most important tips. Using your actual phone is not only bad if you have a significant other, but also information you don't need random people to have.

2) don't give out personal info ever. You only open yourself to liability by giving out unneeded information.

3) make sure the escort you are contacting has reviews. Do not take one for the team, as it is too risky and unnecessary. Also, do your research make sure the contact info matches - double and triple check their sites, review multiple boards and google the phone number. Basically , become a detective, and make sure you are safe. Personally, I will not see someone with less than 10 reviews, as faking reviews is too easy - and I want to be sure who I am dealing with.

4) use a reference site. Make sure that you can be screened easily and efficiently while protecting your personal information.

5) BP is not your friend. I generally won't see a lady who advertises there. Remember, LEO can see these boards. So, even if your lady is well-reviewed, she could be being followed by LE. Personally, a solicitation charge would be a nightmare for me - so while this may seem overly cautious - it is a rule that I don't deviate from. Also, I will not see a lady who does not have a private website.

6) don't get emotional. This is something you do for enjoyment. Don't compromise that with putting up with drama. The beauty of the hobby is that it is completely care-free and you don't have to carry anyone's baggage. If your ATF is having problems - don't become involved. At the end of the day you are paying for a service - her personal life is not your responsibility. If you feel the need to be a benefactor rescue a dog from the pound, donate to a charity or think of a random good deed. This is a business transaction.

7) if something feels wrong trust your gut. If your chemistry seems off - cancel. If you get there and the pics don't represent her accurately. Give her a tip and leave before the action starts. If anything makes you feel unsafe, get out. Don't stay if you are uncomfortable for any reason. This should be fun - you are paying for a service to have FUN. Don't work for it, that is what you are paying for. When I meet a lady at a hotel, I always make sure to notice my surroundings as I go in, also I make sure to use the restroom to make sure that we are alone. This should be common practice, make sure you are safe.

Thanks everyone for the good advice. You have made my hobbying enjoyable and as safe as possible. I am sure there are other tips, please reply with them and offer opinions. The reason I felt this was necessary was a post made by another member a few days ago. I felt like this was potentially advice that could help others avoid similar problems in the future. I apologize if any of this is hard to follow, I wrote it on my phone.

Happy hobbying!

...but it just doesn't add enough entertaining drama to this msgboard.Sorry. :D

Everyone has their own rules.

Good for you, you've been "trolling" for "quite a while". I've been doing this for more than ten years. Here's my take on your advice.

1) I own one phone, use it for everything. I don't have an SO, and have not yet gotten to the point that I need to wear an aluminum foil hat while making calls to prevent "them" from hearing me. I would, however, own a hobby phone if I DID have an SO.

2) I don't give out personal info to someone I have met for the first time, but once I establish a relationship with someone, I invite them into my house and don't feel the need to hide basic info. I will have as much info about them as they have about me, and I have a number of very good relationships that were established this way.

 3) I check out every escort that I see new for the first time with every tool available to me - but I also TOFTT on a very regular basis. I have had several mediocre experiences and many very good ones doing this.

 4) I did not use a reference site for ten years and never needed one. I did join date-check just recently, more for convenience than anything else.

 5) I have seen almost exclusively BP girls for ten years with no problems. BP is an advertising site, nothing more, and when you live in a small market area, it is the only show in town. Advice to avoid BP girls is worthless, advice to learn how to screen and protect yourself is valuable.

 6) This is not a standard business transaction and it is impossible not to let your emotions get involved, unless you are an emotionless fuck to begin with. Denying your feelings and emotions doesn't ever do anybody any good. If yo are not mature enough to HANDLE the emotions that arise, that is another story, and you are probably headed for a crash no matter what you do.

 7) "if something feels wrong trust your gut."  This is your only statement that I agree with, almost 100% - why leave a tip iF she is using fake pictures? Just beat it :-)

Believe it or not, I understand the desire to give advice when you have discovered something new. But IMO the ability to give good advice comes from extensive experience, not from newly discovered platitudes.

When you guys say don't give out personal info...do you mean not even giving out your real first name or your work info?

Some guys will tell you they never give out any personal info whatsoever. There are plenty of "unprofessional" girls who don't screen, or screen very little and don't even ask your name.

But if you are dealing with a higher class and more professional lady, she is going to require some personal info - if you have solid provider reviews, that may be all you need, but if you are new, or just don't see the kind of girl that gives references, then you are probably going to have to give up some personal info (like real name and work info) in order to see those girls.

The best you can do to protect yourself is to research your lady very carefully, read reviews, PM other guys who have seen her - before you give up any info. Even then, you are taking some level of risk. We all are, that's part of this hobby.

I don't give out real name or work info to providers.

What I have done is given that information to P411.  They don't give away your information to the providers, but they do validate it - so the providers know if you are an accepted member at p411 references have been checked.

So far P411 only has been fine as far as getting appointments.

I've made a new thread.

It was moved to the newbie board, but from my experience, the information is not readily known by many "experienced" men.

with your basically solid advice.  Because I did not have an employer when I started this I needed a reference service to help get through screening.  P411 was very good at getting different information from me to pass their screening process.  Once that was done, it was easy to find girls on that site who were "Newbie Friendly."  With their subsequent "OKs" I was able to see anyone I wanted.  So reference sites can be a good way to a newbie to get started.
You are also quite right about BP.  I know of other parts of the country where it's the only game in town.  Even in my area you can find decent girls there.  For example, many touring providers -- even ones reviewed here -- put up an ad on BP when they're in town.
As for the rest, you're right that the OP's post is a statement of the obvious and also is a cookie-cutter approach that may cover a lot of us -- but not all of us.  In my case, I'm single, retired and virtually everyone in my life knows what I do for fun.  I'm still careful because, really, who wants to get busted or have a bad experience?  So, I do my homework.  But I don't really worry much about my screening info being mis-used.  The idea of anyone being able to successfully blackmail me makes me chuckle.

I'm not saying joining a service is a bad thing, just that I didn't NEED to for the first ten years of my hobby life.

And you are right, most of the OP advice is decent advice for the average guy. My problem is with those who give advice without really knowing the ins and outs of what they are talking about. For instance, the almost daily ranting about the evils of BP providers, which is ridiculous. A "bad" provider is bad because she provides poor service, not because she advertises on backpage. There are fakes and scams and bad providers on other sites as well, including the mighty EROS (home base of the fake pic). Advertising on BP doesn't make her a bad provider; advertising ANYWHERE with fake pix, no reviews (or bad ones), no screening, ridiculously low prices, etc, etc, etc DOES make her a bad provider

I think what we're both saying is that when someone generalizes they are over-simplifying a very complex area.  I don't use BP or Eros because I just don't need to.  They have their uses and, when used with care (more care needed than with a TER girl) they can be valuable.
As for P411, in my case it was invaluable in getting started in the Internet version of this game of ours.  But if you're using mainly BP girls it's probably of little use.

-All a matter of opinion with most of this.
-LE looks on ALL escort ad sites, especially THIS ONE!
-BP has some great, reliable providers---few, but still some. Most of them are as cheezy as the ones here they just don't know how to pretend as well and let's be honest, most mongers here frequent BP! A great number of reviews on this site are from BP girls.
-Reviews can be false because people have motives and will go to great lenghts to create an illusion; good or bad. I have seen it far too often.  They can also get people into a lot of trouble when it comes to LE.
-Don't tell people to not give personal info while you're digging for & sharing personal info on providers.
-VET mongers & vet HOOKERS don't know everything and are not as slick as they seem to think they are
-When hookers and mongers spend hours on sex boards they are usually mentally ill so stay away

this business because women won't pay you to have sex with them or a provider whose telephone stopped ringing along time ago and inbox reads empty every time you sign in.

So, which is it?

The OP gave very good advice.
