Suppose your SO accidently finds your hobby phone at home which you generally keep in your office desk draw but needed it for some business.
What can you say to her about it to avoid her suspicions?

Try telling her you found it. That will work as long as it has nothing on it or on the account to indentify it as yours. Then say "I need to try and find out who it belongs to" so you can return it. Then pretend to mail it to them OR say you can't find out who it belongs to and then trash the phone and get a new one OR hide it back in the office or some other safe location. If it has stuff connected to you I think you might be screwed, and not in the way you want to be...

That's my idea ...

Next time keep it better hidden & turned off when not needed.

If it were me, the phone never makes it into the house, locked drawer or not.  Leave it at the office.
To much bad karma and potential for questions if it's found.

Don't want to spin too far of topic but this comes up every now and then.  Hobby phones are the perfect idea for some guys and yet for others they may be a very poor idea.

I have heard of stories where guys got into hot water because of their regular phones and I have also heard of stories where guys got into hot water because of their hobby phone.  

My take:  Ignore all those who say 'Dude, you are an a-hole if you hobby without one'.  Next, ignore all those who say 'Dude, a hobby phone will raise more suspicion and/or cause more inconvience in the long run'.

Each camp may be correct and each camp may be wrong. It's all based upon your own personal situations and how you do things relative to hobbying.  Some guys either do not, cannot or do not know how to erase cell phone footprints either on the device itself or through billing records.  Other guys may not be good candidates to introduce a new device into their personal lives. Only you know your SO and your typical MO habits relative to hobbying.  So only you know the red flags that are most applicable to your life. Learn the pros and cons of each side of the hobby phone decision and decide based upon what makes sense for you and not others.

IMO, the question that you ask is indicative of someone who might get a hobby phone without proper contemplation.  The answer to this dilemma should be part of your 'what if' plan when the phone is purchased and stored in your  memory banks just in case a story is ever needed.  Perhaps the phone should not be purchased in the first place if this situation is too much risk for you.

Nobody looks in it, or touches it... (mostly because they couldn't care less as long as the paycheck comes in)  Same with the computer.  In return they know I will never bother their stuff...(Also because I could care less  LOL)
Works well for me.....could be touchy for someone with a Nosey SO, or kid or both!

I think it's just great that no one will ever snoop in your phone or records, not even a divorce atty.  But unless you have an open marriage or are both swinging, IMHO it's dumb to leave tracks of any kind.  You can't go back retroactively are erase all tracks.  I hope she never has a change of heart.

Sure, there are things to keep hidden...  including a hobby phone.  But at least it doesn't leave bread crumbs to my or a lady's door.  I also do not enter any names or numbers & delete after each session.  

Suspicious sh*t will happen from time to time...  if there's no other suspicion or verification, passes harmlessly away.  

I'd even recommend a hobby phone for single guys.  Say you meet someone and get a relationship going...  Do you want to reveal all this to your new GF?  What about your employer?

Same here.  Being single, I have no SO to hide it from and I don't have to carry two phones around, or remember two numbers.  Like upncummin said, it may not work for everyone, but it works for me.

Hobby telephones are essential; and I agree avoid keeping it at home, or when heading out of town for business travel (when you want it handy); I always make sure memory has a set of ficticious names, stores, numbers - e.g. pizza delivery, cab, otherwise memory is clear, keep battery and phone apart so if spouse finds the phone, it looks like an old one and there is no ready give-away

My nosey 13 year old son found mine while he was digging through the center console in my work vehicle.  I told him it was a co-workers phone; no harm done, but I will definitely be more careful in the future.

I sure would be a nusance to carry around 2 phones all the time...  but who here is on the prowl 24/7?  Forget I asked that.  

My hobby phone stays locked place outside the home unless I'm working on a date.  If in the process of a date, I switch out my regular phone (goes into the briefcase) and the hobby phone goes into my belt carrier.  

It's really best to not bring hobby items into the home unless absolutely necessary...  If I returned from a date direct to home...  I'd stop somewhere & place items in the car trunk before arrival.  

It seems just sloppy to to be making / taking hobby calls from home or any unsecure location.
