I usually have good self-control and don't hobby more than I can afford to, but I can get carried away sometimes. I'm  sure this happens some of you too. What I want to ask is how often you do this and what is your approximate income?

I do this about twice a month. I am retired. My approximate income is something I won't post here.  I have a fun part time job that pays for the hobby. My retirement income pays for everything else including saving.

What a great strategy! I could never consistently spend that as I have other hobbies, like boating. I have to admit, it sounds like what you got going beats boating,  because that old adage "A boat is a hole in the water you throw your money into." is really true.

The marriage sucks (no sex, no companionship, nothing but yelling/criticism); dead end job; just parted ways with two back-to-back ATFs who were really wonderful ladies (saw the first one 1-2 times/week for a month; saw the second one twice a week for 1-1/2 months...I probably burned both of them out...  :-(   ).  Still in search of "happiness" about twice a week to fill the void, the loneliness in my life....Pathetic, aren't I???...And, no, Jesus hasn't helped yet... Met another nice provider the other day who has brought a smile to my face for more than a few hours immediately following. Yeh, yeh, I know: shouldn't put all your hopes in one basket, especially with a provider. And my last ATF told me what I already realized: that I'm "looking for love in all the wrong places".... But hope springs eternal!....or fools never learn. (I'm hoping the former rather than the latter applies to me.) Wish me luck...

You could set an example and post your income first, perhaps more will reply.
I hobby once a month or two months.

I get plenty of action at home, but when I travel, it's nice to have some company. If I'm on the road for say 3 nights in a given week, I'll try to have entertainment each night.  Sometimes it's one friend for a couple of days.  Other times it's a new friend each night. Both have advantages and disadvantages.

For me it's not so much a matter of self-control, it's more a matter of wanting to be entertained and enjoying a woman's companionship.

Income is irrelevant. Net worth is probably a better metric to use.  You can have a guy that makes $500k a year, but has alimony, child support, three mortgages and two car payments that leave him with little discretionary income or you can have a guy making $250k with no debt and $5m in the bank that can spent 50% of his take home pay on companions and not think twice about it  The first year I did this I spent an obscene amount of money trying out every flavor and personality type. Year #2 I was far more selective and learned what I liked and narrowed the field considerably.  Now I spend a fraction of what I spent in year one, but the experiences have been exponentially better.

Good answer. I posted this because I barely make six figures, and I'm fairly early in my career. I sometimes feel bad about spending 20% of my salary on the hobby.

I had a very close and long term relationship with both, but I heard from mutual friends that they were jealous of other people I saw.

Shit happens.

No I definitely spend too much...
I have said before though.
The hobby is a good addiction to have for me.
Much better/ healthier than drugs.
So basically I have rearranged my lifestyle to afford to hobby as often as possible. I will probably live longer too!
Thanks ladies!

I am also retired and hobby twice a month (down from 4 times due to SO was getting suspicious). I am also uncomfortable to post my income, but my income from my investment income is higher than what I was paid when I was working. I don't have a part time job. My investment is my other hobby so I am making money while I am having fun. :)

For example, you can make $1 million a day and spend $2 million a day. You won't have much discretionary fund to spend on your hobby. It's what you keep (after tax) that determines how much you can spend. As a retiree, I have very few financial obligations (only one small mortgage left) and a very large tax credit (very small annual state tax payment) so I have plenty of money to spend on all my hobbies. As it turned out, I am fairly good at one of my hobby (investment) so it more than funds all my hobbies, but I only participate in this particular hobby twice a month due to SO.

I would never get jealous... I know men love variety and so I am under no delusions that I am their ONLY provider, and if I start getting jealous all it does is cause me to lose a guy I am fond of who was very good to me...

Who wins in that situation?

Do you keep a journal of your hobby spending, detailing how much, to whom and when?

Of course if you are married, you better keep this under lock and key, but otherwise does such a journal, presuming you keep one, help you control your spending?

I've been keeping one for over 10 years.

If it is keeping me from overspending, it's not all that effective.  Then, on the other hand, who knows what I'd be spending without it?

Not only I don't keep a journal, I delete/erase my cell, my pc, etc. I don't even keep email or phone # of providers after the appointment. I keep nothing but memory. Yes, I do have SO concern. I sure hope I overspend. Life is too short not to live it.

I keep an Excel spreadsheet to pace myself and not overspend. I only hobby once every two weeks, since I barely make $100K and still early in my career. (Does everyone agree this is a reasonable frequency?) These are mostly $$$$, so I guess I could do it more if I go for cheaper sessions.

There is no real value in tracking this hobby.  At this point I've got a ballpark number I budget every month and if I have a lighter travel month, I end up with a few thousand more to spend the next month and vice versa.  I can estimate within 5%-10% what I've spent in a given year, but having all that down on paper can be depressing...and incriminating if you have a SO or snooping friends/relatives

...but I really don't have to. I hobby twice a month. I know who I saw and what the donation was. I see the same few ladies often so keeping up with the expense is easy in my case.

I allot myself enough to do a one hour session every two weeks or a longer session every 3 weeks. I carve out 25% of my post tax income for hobbying and allot myself a 'bonus' for my birthday.

Until this year I thought I had my hobbying under control. Usually a one hour session 2 or 3 times per month. Then in January I met a provider who just resonated on every level.  Longer sessions led to overnights and occasional gifts and now 9 months later and I have burned through 50k. Makes me wonder if I should have just bought a new BMW. Though can't complain as it has been fun but hard to cut back to a lower level with her and keep it going as I think I have spoiled her. Probably just need to take some time off from the hobby altogether and practice thinking with my big head for a change.
