Female condoms (aka FC2) will soon be sold in the U.S. only by prescription:

http://www.thebody.com/content/80020/female-condoms-used-by-women-and-men-for-hiv-preve.html?ap=1100

I think that's a terrible business decision, and it's going to make threesomes and orgies less fun.

Looks like they're trying to cash in on the free government handouts. Why charge 4 bucks a unit when you can charge the government 20?

You can buy them in ultrabulk here: http://www.totalaccessgroup.com/fc2_female_condoms_bulk_wholesale_distributor.htm

Or just on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/FC2-Female-Condom-3-Packs-units/dp/B01E656TNQ

Another US  company trying to rip off the American government via healthcare. I doubt they will get away with it today.

The pill, and those other contraceptive are probably less money, and your only alternative per insurance.

Good luck getting your insurance to pay for female condoms.

FC2 are among the safest birth control methods available. It is one out of two methods that reduce STD risks. Limiting safe and easily available (non prescription) to people is a very bad idea when not based on scientific evidence of effectiveness, or safety is bad for the nation as a whole. I hate corporate greed when it come at the cost of society as a whole. Limiting access to things like FC2 brings with it ills like unplanned pregnancies, an increase of the spread of STDs and certain cancers , and well fun for those who prefer them. That is a real cost to society. Bad call.

...wouldn't that just be an added cost of doing business? If your clientele prefers them, continue to offer them and add on a small "user fee" to cover costs. Those who are passionate (pun intended) about their use will probably continue to want to use them and will see the small add-on cost as a small bump in the price of their pleasure.

If I'm looking to spend $$$ with a provider, an extra $20-$40 won't deter me from having a great time.

Easy to break on products and hard to enforce. OTOH ideas can be more easily protected. If they didn't protect the intellectual property it will be just a matter of time till an off shore source emerges.

Then they will cry about unfair imports but not stupid executives.

You cannot patent an idea. http://www.legalzoom.com/articles/can-you-patent-an-idea

"Without some identifiable embodiment of the idea there can be no intellectual property protection obtained and no exclusive rights will flow unto you."
If they didn't protect the intellectual property it will be just a matter of time till an off shore source emerges.  Then they will cry about unfair imports but not stupid executives.
But there is also an FDA part:

"The Center for Devices and Radiological Health has recognized and will use consensus standards pursuant to the Food and Drug Administration Modernization Act of 1997 (P.L. 105-115), which amends section 514 of the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (21 U.S.C. 514(c)). FDA has recognized voluntary consensus standards for Latex Condoms for Men, and other relevant standards may also be applicable to the submission of a 510(k) for a latex condom, e.g., ISO 10993. A list of recognized standards is maintained on the CDRH website and is updated at least annually. Other recognized standards may be applicable for latex condoms and manufacturers have the right to make a declaration of conformity to any listed standard. [FDA Guidance on the Recognition and Use of Consensus Standards, February 19, 1998, q.v.]"

Over the years, there have been a variety of foreign condoms that could not be legally sold in the US for failure to meet the voluntary FDA standards (which I believe includes testing and quality control).  And that's probably a good thing.

But, yes, FC2 manufacture does not appear to be rocket science and other sources may start making similar items or inventing new ones. But if the current company claims they can't make money selling a few FC2s for $3-4 retail, now will a new company make any money?

United States Patent, 8,100,128, January 24, 2012
Contraceptive sheath with integrated bead construction

Abstract
A female condom and an improved method for manufacturing a female condom is disclosed. The invention provides a device that is effective in both acting as a contraceptive and inhibiting the transmission of disease during coitus. The invention employs synthetic latex in an efficient and cost effect manufacturing method that results in an improved product.

I guess the FDA doesn't have to be involved for you to get ripped off. I wonder if there's a way you might be able to persuade the shop owner to, can we say, "reconsider" his fee structure.
I know how much you gals hate to negotiate. I guess that can come back and bite you in the ass, huh  lol

to see this manipulation of the system to sponsor corporate greed over customer need. I have no problem with a private company making money, but not when it comes at the expense of the taxpayer or through regulation. And for something so obviously contrived?

I say fuck them. Simply use regular condoms and boycott the FC2. It's not like we didn't get along with regular condoms just fine in the past.

The only people I see pushing female condoms are providers. I'm sure there are guys who seek those ladies out.

The boycott might not go so well.

Probably going to be easier to just buy them over the internet from suppliers in Canada. The cost will be a little higher than now, but better than dealing with a doctor, a pharmacist, and an insurance company.

A recurring theme by guys that won't see providers if they're in a hotel with $20 parking fee. A two to three hr session in Boston or New York is more like $30+

Not all guys, but the complainers now have one more thing to complain about. They should start writing their congressman now lol

Just why in the fuck would a gay bar have "female" condoms? I can't think of any purpose they would serve except for protection during "penile vaginal" sex between a man and a woman. That doesn't seem like an activity than any gay person would have any interest in. lol

They can also be used for Greek...from what I hear they are a pretty good alternative to normal condoms if you pull out the ring on the bottom.

I don't know many straight guys that need free condoms bad enough to go get them from the community "honor" bowl at a gay bar.  It totally makes sense for you, though, and who knows, you may find new friends to go shoe shopping with.

There is no logical reason to fuck a woman in the ass, when it comes to men it makes even less sense.

I also think anyone repulsed by the female body, to the point they are attracted to the male body, is certifiably insane.
