I noted that when the Dixie Chicks made their waves.  I never thought it would actually be true.  We'll see what more happens.

Its important to vote this year.  If the chimp gets
elected for another term, there may not be a free
election in 2008.

It would appear that the FCC's latest chest pounding has caused the station that owns Howard to reel him in a bit on their own. Thus, you have Clear Channel's Knee jerk reaction to Janet's antics.I'm for free speech and in this case with radio, if one don't like what they hear, they are free to change the dial.
Some of the "bleeps" havn't made any sense and I believe Howard's right when he says that there really aren't any FCC standards to follow in regards to what can be said and can't be said.So how is one "bleep" deserving when another is not.

As for Howard's show of late, this FCC stuff is masking the overall downturn in its quality.

I've been listening to Howard for years when he first came to WNBC from Wahington DC. He's the original "shock Jock" and I found his material very funny at times and "cutting edge".
Lately, though, the show has been getting "old" for me and when I tune in of late, it seems always during a pissing, whining and moaning routine amoungst the adolescent sexcapades, midgets,"retards",wierd sound effects, and fart noises. The Joke man and Studdering John have left the show, leaving behind this same ole', same ole.
I'm back to listening to some soothing music but that's my personal choice for relaxation at the wheel. For other's,feel"free" to listen to what you want.NO MORE "BLEEPS"!
BTW, in a funny way, I wish they would ban cell phones.I know there here to stay and have many useful purposes but they can be a real pain in the A.Everyone must admit that life was much simpler without them.
Cheers!

This whole thing with the Government and Howard Stern is insane. I've listened to Howard since my freshmen year in college so its been about 8yrs now and its not really been that long and I'm not ready to see him go especially not under these conditions. For me its not whether Howard's show is good or not anymore, Its all about Free Speech. If they take Howard away, whats next?? This is America, we get to pick and choose what we want to listen too and what we want to watch. IF YOU DO NOT LIKE IT CHANGE THE STATION or TURN THE DIAL ON THE RADIO! WHy listen if you don't like it! It makes no sense! I don't like Country music so I don't listen to it. I change the dial, whats so hard about that!!!

I'm 26yrs old, I've never voted for any election but this year I have sworn to vote. I'm all for getting President Bush out of office cause he has gone completely nuts. I was against the war, I am against the FCC and The Govt trying to take away our rights, I am not happy with anything he has done. Bush needs to go. 'Nuff Said!

Now you want to take away my cell phone????.  I'm trapped in my car for 8+hours per day. If my ability to reach out and touch or be touched is taken away I'll go stark raving mad. If you don't like Stern then change the channel, if you hate your cell phone then throw it away! but don't join up with the "anti's" and take them from me/us.

No...and don't worry its not happening anytime soon.

I'm in financial sales so a cell is now part of my wardrobe...lol
Conversely, There was a time during the first part of my career
when there was no such animal, also, no fax machines and no internet. Those out there in TER land that experienced this would know what I was trying to say. There were moments that you could really "hide".
The world was a lot less hyper and now we are all connected 24/7.
So much harmony and togetherness!

Cheers!

Eric Boehlert on www.salon.com has a very interesting take on the relationship of Howard Stern to Clear Channel, the FCC and George W., called "The Passion of Howard Stern".

If you're not a member of Salon, you can read the piece by sitting through a 15-30 sec commercial.

They haven't been enforcing it yet. Another reason why I schedule using e-mail.

Nobody is banning cell phones.  Just DRIVING while using them.  It's actually quite logical.  Pull over if you need to make a call.

As reported in today's LATimes (www.latimes.com), Nicole is correct that Sandra Tsing Loh was fired today for using the word "fuck" in one of her commentaries on the local NPR station, KCRW. Loh will, however, continue her op/ed pieces for "Marketplace" on National Public Radio.

I have always found Loh's work to be witty, thoughtful and amusing, which is something I can't say about any of the utterances of either George W. or Michael Powell.

And to answer Nicole's question, the government has already gone way too far in their threats of intimidation (fines) and censorship.

...when there were no cell phones, no fax machines, no internet, no pagers, no word processors or computers and no e-mail. High tech in 1978 was an IBM Selectric (bouncing ball).
Please remind me, how did we get anything done in the 70s??

...you actually had to see your customer face-to-face; you had an expense account to buy him (almost no "her"s)lunch; A Quotron and an IBM Selectric were considered High tech tools for business. Oh yes, I also had a secretary assigned to only two (2) of us to take our messages and type our correspondence.
Now, the firm where I broke in (P,W,J&C) no longer exists. Those (under 40) who work in the firm which ate up the Old Firm  ask: What is a secretary?? (A: what we had before providers, son)
BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! "PC POLICE, OPEN UP!!" Gotta go. Bye.
