Do you know about the feminist/pornographic artist, Marilyn Minter?

In the 80's, she was ridiculed in the NYC art world, for her Warhol-ish pornography, which she claimed was "feminist art."

Wow; she was so ahead of her time!

Now, she is a super star in the NYC art world, who has had exhibits at major NYC art museums, including the Whitney.

Have you ever heard of her?

I first heard of her from a feminist girl, when I moved to NYC three years ago.

I am a Marilyn Minter fan, for sure.

From "New York Magazine":

"The Damaged Glamour of Marilyn Minter"

June 2009

"Artist Marilyn Minter studies the pathology of glamour. Since the eighties, she has rendered beauty grotesque and gore beautiful with photos and photo-realistic enamel-on-metal paintings that shimmer like nail polish..."

Marilyn Minter is at the zenith of her career right now...

She has had exhibits in NYC at least three times in the last three years.

I can't wait for the next one.

I just love her.  She is so edgy and fabulous.

I used to be primarily interested in people as photography subjects, but during the last couple of years, I've gotten more fascinated with landscape photography, after I saw some epic landscape photos in galleries/museums.

Beautiful use of color and stop motion photography.
They are very "Warholian", vibrant  colors, reds, yellows, silver and the rest. You can see the sensuality of the female mouth. You can feel the lust. Probably speaks volumes to you Kim.

This image and a lot of the other images you posted are from her film "Green Pink Caviar". I actually saw the film for the first time 2 weeks ago when I saw her give a talk in nyc. She is Amazing. Love her stuff. Have you heard of Cicily Brown? Another great feminist filmmaker!

the crustalline quality of the shower of water droplets does it.

i do landscape photography on occasion and my pics are often obsessed with "fixing" fluid motion into a frozen crystal of time.

waterfalls and surf.

i'd go through all sorts of contortions to get behind the waterfall or find a kinky angle to it. to do the same thing in surf required special gear since invariably i and everything would get wet. the waterproofing problem was interesting to solve.... ;-)

i was strictly amateur, though i sold a few prints. however my fabulous second ex has all my old landscapes and the prints. that was part of "the deal". it's OK i got fair value on it.

recently i have only photographed a few travel shots and the occasional lady who has confidence in my compositional skills.

I enjoy this kind of art.  It's very effective and visceral.

I was previously unacquainted with her work, I enjoyed these a lot.

I appreciate having my visual experience widened in an unexpected venue.
