Just stumbled on this, thought it rang true and wanted to share

Of course that doesn't mean she doesn't make some very valid points, but it seems a major bitch of hers is that she is running a small business. Yeah, tell me about it and welcome to the club. Running a business can be incredibly satisfying and it can be very difficult at times so that complaint is shared by many in the legit, civie world.  

She states she has been doing this for 9 years. That is about 4-5 years past the point where many become jaded. Imo, sex work should probably be for a finite time, to save money, go to school, establish something for a later time in life to eventually get out of sex work.  

Easier said than done. I wish I had a nickel every time a friend of mine said she was leaving the business. Tough to walk away from $4-5 beans an hour or more. Real tough. As people, we tend to adjust our lifestyle to what we are making. Sure there are some that can live at, or under, their means but they seem to be the exceptions rather than the rule.  

All that said, I think her blog post should be read by anyone thinking about entering the biz. If a gal reads all that and still thinks hooking is a good idea, then have at it. But if the article can talk someone out of entering escorting, then clearly that person was never going to make it in sex work.

Suicide is always sad.  But it is hard to say it is based on external causes in many cases.  I've known some otherwise successful people who've up and killed themselves.  There really was no worldly reason apparent.

Debbie Downer!

I am the managing partner of a small professional services consultancy.  Many of the points are very familiar to me...  such as not getting chosen in the line up!  or traveling around NOT getting paid... or working long hours doing things such as advertising/book-keeping/government BS and NOT getting paid.

But in my opinion, there are important differences - aside from having sex with strange guys:

1.  An illegal business has GOT to be stressful.  For starters - the idea that all your shit is subject to civil forfeiture.... that's got to suck if you have managed to put away some cash or property.  And if you think that's bad - the IRS is like a guy who'll do you up the ass with a baseball bat, if they figure out you have shorted them.   And they can put your ass in jail - just ask Al Capone about that.  And of course - jail.. and lawyers... and cops...  I couldn't do it - just way too much stress.

2.  Security - I don't have to worry about some gorilla coming in and doing really bad shit to me - and maybe robbing me would be the least of it.

3. Family - that's just got to be rough - except for the few lucky ladies who seem to have supportive family.  

4.  Health - This job can KILL you - especially if you aren't careful.  Way too much intimate contact with way too many idiots with limited hygiene skills....

The ladies I have seen appear to have their shit together and they seem to have made peace with a lot of it.  But they do a job I really couldn't...  and I, for one, am damned glad that they do

I remember her. She was one of the first escorts I followed on twitter and she normalized the world of escorting for me. Before her, my only exposure to escorting was on SVU. If it wasn't for her, I probably would be too chickenshit to see an escort.

I can identify with a lot of the stuff she talks about especially the social and relationship aspects but she definitely sounds overworked which can happen when working in a brothel.  I don't think working in a brothel is healthy at all and this kind of sums up my feelings on that subject.  If you feel like you are working 24/7 then you aren't doing this right...  All I can think is that she probably had a very expensive lifestyle and that's why she worked so much.
