She has this problem: her implants have ruptured and she's experienced some symptoms (rash and infection). The doc says they need to come out. Her insurance (medicaid i assume) will pay for the removal, but not the replacements. Absent the replacements I guess she will be seriously droopy, a major ego thing for her. Apparently the cost of what she needs/wants is around $5k. Because I like her (etc. etc.) I've offered to contribute to a point where you fellows will call me nuts. But I'm not crazy enough to lend/give her the whole thing, nor can i really afford to. Any ideas will be appreciated and passed on to her.

Screening is not fool-proof, especially if someone has an axe to grind, but I would doubt you could contain your personality long enough make it through the process. And, at any point during our time together, if that personality reared it's ugly head or some slip was made regarding your identity - I'd be out the door and you'd be wearing the remainder of my beverage.

Implant failure is around 2% at the 10 year mark so unless she's been in some hugely traumatic impact/blunt force trauma situation (severe car crash type thing) or her implants are 100 years old, the chance that BOTH her implants have failed is so minute it's ridiculous.
Second, when implants fail, the saline is absorbed by the body in a relatively short period of time. I had a 1000cc implant rupture and it was absorbed in less than 48 hours. Chances are her implant isn't that large and so whatever saline leaked, would have been absorbed in a shorter time frame. If she's telling the truth about them BOTH having ruptured (greater chance of being eaten by a shark.... in your own swimming pool), you could see/feel it. There'd be loose/saggy skin and you could *totally* fee the empty sack inside. It squeaks when you rub it against itself, even, and it looks like what it is - a deflated plastic bag inside a sack of skin.
Third, implant companies offer full replacement warranties. Mentor, the most popular implant company by a HUGE margin, pays 100% of the cost of new implants when there is as failure - EVER. Other companies cover 100% for 7-10 years and then prorate after that.
Fourth, if for some insane reason she actually has to pay for new implants, a new PAIR up to 800ccs (which can be filled to over 1500 if she wants) averages around $1500. Anything over 800cc's (shell) is considered custom and that's a whole different ballgame. The doc's time, OR fees, anesthesia fees and whatnot can add up to that 5k mark but NOT for the implants themselves.
Fifth, if her insurance is going to pay for removal, that means they've covering the doc/OR/anesthesia and all she needs to come up with is the implants themselves.
Unless you have a lot more info than you've given - go wipe the "L" off your forehead and tell her what she can do with herself for trying to run this game on you. If you don't want to believe me (and I wouldn't blame you), do the research yourself on implantinfo.com or simply Google it all.

Regardless, most insurance companies will pay for the removal of the implants if it proven to be MEDICAlly NECESSARY. Implants are COSMETIC..Insurance does not pay for cosmetic procedures most of the time. The few exceptions to the rules are with breast cancer and some procedures after bariatric surgery....
