I saw today that Pretty Woman is being adapted for Broadway and that got me thinking about some of my favorite fictional providers!

Vivian Ward (Pretty Woman) was probably my earliest exposure to this industry, although her and Edward's story would probably be scoffed at - if not worse - by 90% of the participants on this board today. I still like the story however and keep a working knowledge of a stick shift, just in case, thanks to this movie... I mean who hasn't dreamed of a no-holds-barred Rodeo Drive shopping spree?!

Other favorite characters of questionable character include Holly Golightly (Breakfast at Tiffany's) for her oh-so-chic wardrobe and irresistibly effervescent spirit; Hannah Baxter (Secret Diary of a Call Girl) for her perfectly blunt and honest sense of humor and beautiful London apartment (and later, townhouse); and of course, Iris "Easy" Steensma (Taxi Driver) for that acerbic wittiness that only serves to highlight her sweet, childlike innocence in those rare flashes when it's shown.

What about y'all? Are there any favorites I didn't mention? It's fun to see what I (and others in this hobby) think about this industry and the way it's portrayed in the media and entertainment now that I've been on both sides of the curtain!

Jan Brady. She was in that Portrait of a Teenage Runaway movie as a call girl. I never bought that wholesome, dumbass, four eyed girl next door charachter she played on the Brady Bunch.

Hahah the weird little cutout dress was the epitome of scandalous for 13 year-old me!

But I sooo agree about Julia Roberts! I think I probably laugh like a dying walrus now just because of how cute she looked when she did it!  :D

Well maybe not Aldo...but someone gussied her up.

Or maybe they just made her look like shit on the show?

Hannah Baxter! She's my fav. I'd like to think I'm the brunette version of her. Witty sense of humor and all ;)

...I'd wager it took you a good 15 solid minutes to find/edit/photo shop that pic. She almost looks human here. Not quite the hideous wretch I remember.

She was so ugly back in the day she had to invent George Glass as her fake john b/c she couldn't get real paying customers like Marcia always managed to do

Google is your friend.  Right click on the pic(s) and it'll show you where they came from.

And I'm guessing that even Aldo wasn't photoshopping back then  LOL

Marcia, Marcia, Marcia  ;)

Oh, no. I'm sorry. Just checked your bio. You're young and hot. I thought you were someone else for a moment. My apologies.

definitely not in the same genre as Pretty Woman, but Paz Vega is great.

Played by Jamie Lee Curtis in Trading Places. Also, what about Sera played by Elizabeth Shue in Leaving Las Vegas. Those 2 and Jilia Roberts are the ones that always come to mind when I think of Hollywood's portrayal of hookers.

Ahttp://www.catholicboy.com/filmguide.php.    scENE 29:Jim meets Diane Moody again, who is now straight. He asks if she's holding, or if she has any money. She tosses him some change and tells him to go buy some pretzels.° Yes, Diane got straight, but this scene didn't happen in Carroll's diary. See Spring 1966 (pages 184-85).

Now that I think about it...Kramer could have been her pimp. And maybe all those pop ins to Jerry's pad was actually outcall?

Then again, Nick Cage's role in "Leaving Las Vegas" was about as bad as it gets.  Dying drunk while having an orgasm? Give me a fucking break.

Did you ever notice the scene where Jerry is counting out some cash and Elaine is mesmerized by it?

When Jerry loses track of his counting, Elaine helpfully chimes in with the exact count.

There are other instances, but that one took the cake.

I loved the hooker on West Wing.  Had the goods on a bunch of republicans and wouldn't give it up to the dems...resonates, as it's fair to say the providers I've met have more integrity than a lot of the so called "professionals" I deal with every day.
