LOS ANGELES - Tiger Woods has apologised for comments he made during a television interview after the U.S. Masters at Augusta National Golf Club on Sunday.
The world No. 1, who tied for third place three strokes behind winner Phil Mickelson, was criticised for using the term “spaz” to describe his poor putting in the final round.
“Tiger meant nothing derogatory to any person or persons and apologises for any offence caused,” Woods’s agent Mark Steinberg said in a statement issued on the player’s official website.
upon applying for my first job, I asked the potential employer, if he had a sense of humor... and could laugh at himself.
I am still looking for that "elusive" employer.
marketing. If he wants to apologize to the small population that might have been offended by that statement in order to not alienate a portion of the population (no matter how small) so be it. The fact is that he wants EVERYONE to like him. That is very hard to do and apologizing for small gaffes is part of doing business if being liked by EVERYONE is your goal.
...had he not apologised then the story would have continued to run along the lines of "arrogant Tiger refuses to apologise" etc...
It was a slightly silly thing to say publicly. So he apologised and that should be it. Heat out of the story and nothing left for the media to whip up.
but then again.... he can't afford to be arrogant towards himself...
I take offense to your categorizing anyone, especially an employer as "elusive." Speaking of which, what could be more offensive than accusing someone of being an "employer." Superdude, you need sensitivity training!

the offense was in the U.K. where apparently the word spaz is quite derogatory. Now you need to apologize to the Americans you offended by insinuating that they got offended.
I think the unbridled influx of illegal aliens
(56% of which are from guess where?)has left only a few small pockets of "citizens" who have any concept as too what "American" is. They unfortunately are of no concern to our elected leaders because the aforementioned 56% is commonly known for reproducing like cockroaches thus giving the politicians only venal impetus to placate their's and Presidente Foxe's agendas.

...but not quite as much as it used to be. When I was a kid growing up in the 80's Spaz, Spacker and the like were very common amongst kids insulting each other in the playground.
There is a children's TV programme called Blue Peter that was popular at the time and they once featured a severely disabled person called Joey Deacon. After that, spastic, spaz, Joey etc... all became part of the local parlance.
These days it is still considered rude to say spaz but nowhere near as offensive as it was. I think some of the offence was caused because Tiger said the word on national TV in front of millions, although I was not offended myself.
there is a commercial tiger woods is in where he is playing a dual role criticizing his performance in a tournament. he says "you were playing hockey on the greens" now this is an insult to white men since the majority of hockey players are white men. it implies that white men have no skill at sports or something. seems like its ok to make fun of white men but everyone else in the world is off limits. the only thing that made the comment acceptable to me is tha most hockey players are also canadian and it's ok to make fun of canadians.
ps this is meant in fun and i agree with an earlier post that we have become too tightly wound as a society. if it keeps up, soon the only people we will be able to poke fun at is green bay pukers fans.

on the Senior Pro Tour. He lost some endorsements, but then again making racist remarks is probably a little more serious in this country than calling yourself a "spaz." I imagine that a pharmeceutical company that makes medication for spastics would not want to hire Tiger as a spokesman, but I imagine that they were not considering that anyway.

I am sick of people being so f**king uptight. Tiger Woods is an outstanding person (that's person...not golfer) and he gets reamed for a minor indiscretion. Golfers are the ONLY pro athletes left with any morals or sportsmanship (did you see Phil and Freddie at the Masters?)Tiger did not mean to denigrate spastics, he was just using a slang term to describe his day on the greens. Lighten up on a guy that just opened a multi-million dollar facility to benefit underprivileged kids in So Cal.
