I be damn if I lower my rates below what they are now and I just changed them this week. My rates used to be $350 an hour then I had a client tell me that I was charging to little so I increased it to $400 an hour but now it appears that this rate is actually considered way to high, I'm not gonna change my rates again as its to confusing if one weeks its a certain price then it changes again, their wont be any consistancy, I just find it interesting that my rate is considered "high", I quite like these debates as it helps me really work out who my target market is what they deem to be reasonable etc.

But too high vs too low shouldn't be determined by what a couple of clients say. The fine who told you your rates were low may just have been trying to compliment you. Whether a price is too high or low should be determined by whether you th Ink you would be better off with a price change. Are you losing some business because you are too heavily booked? Are you busier than you prefer? Do you enjoy the clients with deep pockets more even if a higher price won't make you much money? Or is your calendar wide open and you realize you are spending two hours trying to drum up business compared to every hour on the clock? Or do the rich guys all feel like over-privileged assholes and you want some working-man muscles to buy time with you occasionally. Pay less attention to what the guys say and more attention to whether the customers you want are queuing up or drifting away. I do think you are right not to change prices too often.

I don't buy all that nonsense either, and I live well. I own my vehicle, only buy a new one every 5-7 years, and always 1-2 years old when I do. At 200 bucks per date, I would have to see 5 guys a week to even make the min. I need to get by, which is only a grand....that's not asking for much at all. I literally could get by on 1-2 clients per week, without being greedy asking for more.
