The movie essentially poses the choice as between a superficial,  alienated life of porn addiction versus a life of near religious physical connection.  Really?  Those are the only alternatives the writer sees in life? How about a couple that actually mixes porn into their love lives for a little naughty titillation?  Or a guy who watches porn on occasion,  especially when he's not getting the real thing?  Or a woman who checks out porn once in a while?  The movie was about a guy who was disconnected in some ways. I get that. So was the movie Taxi Driver but that amazing movie didn't offer a simple saccharine explanation--or one step solution-- for the protagonist's alienation.   By contrast Don Jon clearly points to porn as the bad guy. So there were no hyper testosterone guys fucking their way through the alphabet before the advent of pornhub? And there are no sensitive well adjusted males in relationships who watch porn? Gimme a break.  The scene with Scarlett Johanssen rubbing her ass on JGL's crotch was the only part of the movie that wasn't totally trite.

I would only give this movie a score of 65% (as opposed to the Rotten Tomatoes score of 82%), but what what was interesting was the way it spoke to issues of control in relationships.

The Scarlett Johansson character was called out (though not to her face) as being controlling and manipulative toward her partner by the younger sister of the Gordon-Levitt character.

A more interesting question is the extent to which the Julianne Moore was also controlling, though perhaps in a different way.

Most relationship issues come down to issues of control.

Also would never watch the porn scene you discuss (one lady and three guys, bleh!). Won't even watch porn with guys in it. I only watch solo girl and lesbian porn. Also don't have an SO. Sex is always with providers or myself.

Now I very much enjoy the physical part of being with a woman, but no woman's pussy, mouth or hands knows my dick as well as my own right hand. Self orgasms have always been better, but when I am with a woman it's the journey that's important, not the destination.
