Nice offer, but doesn't it make sense ...

The play is by the Pulitzer-nominated playwright Rebecca Gilman.

I would like to facilitate the chance for a provider to be able to see this play.  I've looked into it, and I think it will be staged very infrequently if ever in the future anywhere.  As one critic said in her review, "Gilman's piece...is a wonderfully complex and slyly ironic story about the sort of people who normally receive short shrift from dramatists".  Basically a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see a play of this quality about a provider.  I just really think that all providers should have a chance to see this play.  I've seen it, and can't say enough about how good it is.

I'm in the San Francisco area. The play will be staged at the Magic Theater on Saturday and Sunday (April 26 and 27), and next Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (May 1,2,3,and 4). All of the performances are at 8pm, except for the two Sunday matinees, which are at 2:30pm.

I can pick you up at the airport, drive you straight to the play, and drive you straight back to the airport afterward.

See the link below for more info about the play.

Send me a private email if you are interested.

Actually, someone I know was reading the play the other day, and he didn't feel it was as "realistic" as it has been described.  But then again, anything that helps people understand all this is better than nothing.

I'm the "guilty party." I'll put together my thoughts for you in the next day or so and send them to you. I'd be interested in discussing some of the areas we might disagree upon.

Sounds great.  Have to tell you one thing, though.  The play you read and the play I would like providers to see are not the same.  The published version that you read is two years old, and is more of a first draft.  Gilman made substantial changes, which greatly improved the play.  The only way you can see the final version is to see it staged, because it hasn't been published.  That's the main reason I would like Anya and other providers to see the staged version in San Francisco, which may very well be the last place it is ever staged.

This line from a review speaks to something else worth noting:
"Gilman has drawn her characters with broad strokes, yet each has a wholeness that is enhanced by some skillful acting".  When I read the lines in the published version, the characters did indeed seem rather broadly drawn.  This is one of those plays, like many, which really has to be seen on stage to be truly understood and appreciated.

Gotta figure out a way to see it performed by a good cast!

But I still would like to discuss it with you and even more with Anya.  Why don't you loan it to her to read?
