Are you a robot?

TER's newest thing? Verify you're not a robot. The site is as slow as Christmas the last few days. Admin post on S&P board asking for volunteers to do beta testing. Now while waiting, waiting, waiting for a page to load going from one board to another I'm asked to "verify" I'm not a robot. It's happened twice in the last day or so. A picture with grid marks (no not skid marks) comes up and you're asked to click on all squares with a street name in them or all squares with a door in them. Then click "Verify".

Anyone else been asked to verify they are not a robot?

I agree,  very slow over the last several days!

to fool TER into thinking that they are a human?

So what's the point?

Besides, who says that robot can't enjoy sex.
After all, even Data on Star Trek was "fully functional".

And those fembots on Austin Powers, va-va-va-voom! (Or should that boom?

Depending on which proxy site I'm going thru, I sometimes get the CAPTCHA you're talking about.

EDIT: To clarify, I can go to TER, try to login, but then I get a captcha - not the usual internal TER captcha to report a problem, but one of the external "find the houses" kind - before it will complete my login to TER. The internal captcha seems to be automatic, just to control the inflow of problem reports or PMs. I THINK the external captcha is because TER detects that a lot of login attempts from the proxy I'm going thru are nefarious or roboticized so TER automatically sends sucn login attempts to the external captcha site for me to prove myself.  OK. Back to the original post ...

CAPTCHA = Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart

TER uses their own internally generated CAPTCHA when you're already logged in and submitting some kinds of reports or "Contact Us" PMs. Other sites (myproviderguide and others) also vary by which proxy I am going thru. Sometimes ProxyA will trigger a CAPTCHA challenge from escort sites 1, 3 and 5 but not 2, 4 and 6. Another proxy, ProxyB will trigger challenges from 1, 2 and 5 but not 3, 4 and 6.

Some of the imagehosting sites will also sometimes require a CAPTCHA. I can connect to a Provider's web page or ad but her pics are hosted on another site. I get her webpage OK but no pictures until I correctly find the street signs or rivers.

I've got to add that some of these new picture based CAPTCHAs are pretty stupid and have a lot of ambiguity.

I am guessing that some of the SLOWNESS is due to robots trying to bombard TER and hog bandwidth and so on. That's why CAPTCHAs were developed in the first place.

The only time I get the captchas on TER is when doing a RAP or "contact us" feedback and those are always words or numbers.

I get those picture ones on other sites like Ticketmaster.
I.e.
"Find all the pictures with store fronts"
"Find all the pictures with mountains"

He said he's been "waiting, waiting, waiting."

About 2 weeks ago, I started getting that when using Tor on my iPad. I don't get it on my regular computer, whether via Tor or anything else.

...was on my laptop. Laptop is firefox and kindle is whatever the hell kindle is.
