sexkey

I ran across a new web site for a provider that has been around for a while. The new web site requires you to get a "free" sexkey in order to enter her site.
I went to the "join" area and they want credit card or checking account information. Uh yah, free, right.

Seems really odd that a provider would put up this sort of requirement. Maybe sexkey offers some great click-through revenues for its affiliates. Dunno. They would have to be pretty great given the number of potential site visitors the provider is going to lose because of this impediment to access.

Anybody know anything about sexkey or have any experience with it?

but, having said that, depending on the content of her web site - she may wish to avoid any potential of a kiddy getting onto her site for free pics.... but that is about all Sexkey will do for her.  Sexkey uses the credit card info to verify your age.... and try to sell ya something.... I am always nervous about these things.... I always think - "here is an opportunity for a less that honest person to get a lot of confidential info about me!"  so I kinda shy away, but then I give the same info to cheaptickets, or expeidia or whoknows.... eeeks... they are watching me!? lol

A new web site?  Which requires you to join sexkey for access?  You might want to check her "old" website and see if it is still up. Sexkey has an afiliate program, which means that every time someone signs up, the person who's web site they linked from gets paid.  Click on sexkey's "Affiliates" button for more info.  It's not unheard of for someone to create a "fake" web site about something or someone, especially if they are commonly searched, and require the viewer to sign up for something.  Even if it only lasts a week before they get shut down, the money's there to make it worthwhile sometimes.  If the provider is on TER, I woudl pm her and ask if this is her doing or not.

I haven't contacted the provider.

The provider's old web sites were mostly just glorified ad pages.  They have been gone for a while and this looks to be the provider's attempt to put up a 'real' web site.

As another poster has indicated it seems like pretty extreme measures to do the age check (which isn't totally valid anyway) -- which is the reason the provider gives for the whole "membership via sexkey" thing.  It seems like most providers do the age screen with an entry/disclaimer page -- true, that is likewise more of an annoyance than anything effective at screening, but it appears to satisfy (or does it?) the intent of the laws about this.

about anything SexKey "guards"! to say nothing of the fact that he (a 12-yr old) still gets pop-ups of nude wimin! lol~   I don't mind as I have already had the sex talk with him, told him that is not a good thing... etc.  For the most part- he ignores them and goes to his gaming sites... and blasts the aliens.... lol!  Lets face it, the only way to protect your kids, is to get into their minds, give them the mental tools with which to guard themselves, make good decisions and keep them interested in sports, band or other sane activities.  I still have hobbies from when I was a kid, and when I get a chance I hobby (no NOT this hobby lol!)...

There just is no 100% safe way to guard or keep your kid secure, except by giving them the tools and the motivation to police themselves.  Law?  yea right.... lets face it - the reason that the spam, phone solicitation tactics, and all the other "service" and products are allowed such agressive sales tactics is that they lobby congress to keep those activities going - because it makes them $$$$$.... and yet, providing is illegal! go figure.

What I really dislike about popups and phone solicitation is so offensive to me, is that the advertiser does NOT pay for my internet connection nor does he pay for my phone... they do pay for the postal service when they mail me... but not when they call me.

Sorry - but this topic is a hot button to me right now.  As I sort through my mom's affairs I am totally shocked at how deceptive most of the solicitation mail that she got is... it is made to look like it is "official government business" or a valid notification from some source that she should pay attention to.  It was neither wanted, nor was it something that she would respond to.  But some do, and sadly some old folks, give their needed money to support loony lobbying groups....  I should add, that most were from groups on the right,  who are shameless in using the American Flag and other symbols of the country.
