if i were MTV ...

Sarah/Mona,

if i were head of new programming/productions at MTV, a network (allegedly) credited for having started this whole REALITY TV craze, i think i might take the proliferation of this genre as a sign for regrouping and coming up with another out-of-the-box innovation (instead of competing in an already saturated playing field, and incidentally with major networks who can probably squash MTV in terms of the battle for advertising dollars

but then, i fully concede that i'm too old to mind-read the MTV mission statement - or even VH1 these days (i'm 30-something!

anyway, since you posted on TER discussion board, you should expect some honest feedback. other than that, as they say around here ... "happy hunting"  LOL

If I were a cable or satellite TV operator, I would not carry MTV on my basic lineup.

MTV, in my opinion, is a sorry excuse for a cable TV network.  The type of programming they have do not serve the public well at all.  All they do is show phony, plastic images of what people "should" look like, without accepting what reality really is.  Is "The Real World" actually a reality show?  In my opinion, it's a reality show about young, spoiled brats who spend their lives jumping in hot tubs and having sex with as many people as possible, in many cases, of both genders.  It's also glorifies loudmouthed jerks like Puck and whatever reject that poison's the athmosphere.

I remember what MTV used to be like when it first went on the air in 1981.  Ever since they were pressured to play that Michael Jackson "Billie Jean" video by groups who accused the network of being racist, the channel fell apart and lost its meaning.

Sorry for the long rant, but I have really hard feelings about MTV.
