One of the funniest men I have ever heard is gone today. I don't lament his passing, only celebrate his contribution to our society. This man had a gift.
One of the wisest things I have ever heard was his point about how the word fuck has been polluted and yet how violence has become acceptable. Wise observation on American society.

Whether it was the ironic hypocrisy of our lexicon, the often foolish posturing of our culture, or the conflicting messages of our religious beliefs; Carlin’s iconoclastic heterodoxy was nothing less than genius.
I remember when I was about 9 years old staying up with my sister so that we could sneak out of our room and watch Carlin's HBO special - can't remember which one, he made several - on TV after our parents had gone to bed. Ah the guilty pleasure of watching comedy we barely understood with the volume turned almost completely down, slapping our hands over our mouths so we wouldn't laugh too loud at the funny parts.

George was a comic genius his take on religion, government,race,sex,society may have sounded cynical to some but it made you think. I saw his last HBO special it was very good.
Celebrate his life we shall. He always had exceptional skill about English. His materials are inspiring and challenging. Damned it, he was only 71, why the good died young.
Larry King had a nice tribute to George Carlin this evening. Very good show, glad he was able to put this tribute together. Grew up enjoying & laughing alot via his humor; He left no subject matter untouched..Love the way he went after government & religion.
He has a very nice family; Larry had his daughter & brother on the show.
"Piss" or "pissed" has been used on network TV for many years now, so it's no longer taboo. I think I've actually heard "shit" and "tits" used a couple of times on network TV, but they haven't become totally acceptable yet for the network censors. But considering all the euphemisms for genitalia being used on TV these days, "shit" and "tits" both seem pretty tame by comparison.
George Carlin was one of the best comedians around. Watching his HBO specials left me in pain from laughing so hard. He had a truly common sense approach to his humor, and showcased it by pointing out the absurdities in everyday life. He did become a lot more raunchy later on in his career in comparison to his early days, but I think that enhanced his charm.
I was fortunate enough to see him in person at a local casino here in Kansas City several years ago. I had already heard a lot of the material, since much of it came from his most recent HBO special at the time, but it didn't take away from the enjoyment. In fact, it was fun to know what some of the punchlines were going to be as he was doing his act.
I hope HBO does some sort of retrospective soon on his life and career, as well as showcasing many of his routines from his many specials.
