The weather is getting worse.  The next few months are perfect for curling up with the laptop and watching movies.  What (non porn) movies best capture your experience in this hobby / line of work?

Here are a couple movies that hit home for me, as a guy on the inside of the biz for a while:

1) The Great Happiness Space.  Yes, it's about guy prostitutes ('hosts') in Japan, but the attitude and dynamics of entertaining the opposite sex were I thought perfectly captured.  I think Happiness Space (and I love the title!) captures the weird little society of sex work better than most anything I've ever seen.  The stuff these guys say, and their attitudes, I have heard loads of times out of women's mouths.  And the sad sack women customers in this movie totally remind me of so many Johns.  They even remind me of me in some ways.

2) Revanche.  It's a great movie overall -- very subtle and powerful (though it helps to know German and Russian so you don't have to rely on subtitles; I speak both but I definitely struggled to understand some of the accents), a good movie worth seeing whether you are interested in prostitution or not.  But the main reason I am listing it here is because the first half hour or so totally nails the look and feel of German brothels and Eastern European prostitutes.  The clothes, the people in the business, the situations...  totally nailed.  Jeezus, that was my life for a while.

I have seen some other movies but nothing captured the feel as well as these for me.

'Pimps Up, Hos Down' had moments, but I was never really in that scene, so I can't comment.  Chicken Ranch sort of had moments but I thought was boring and dated.  Anyone seen Happy Endings?  It is hard to find straightforward honest movies that don't try to moralize.  That's what I like about Happiness Space and Revanche.  They just show, without telling.  Revanch isn't even really about prostitution.  It's just a backdrop.

What do you all think?  Recommendations?

When A Woman Ascends the Stairs comes to mind.  It is an old black and white post-WWII Japanese film about an over-30 female bar hostess.  She's not a prostitute (although many of her coworkers moonlight as such with the bar's customers) but there are plenty of parallels with the hobby world.  It's a stylish film about going to a job you loathe with a smile on your face, being charming to people you don't respect, and being worried about the longevity of your career and what will happen to those who depend on you for help (and accept the help without wanting to looking directly at what it is you do).

Another interesting movie:

"Platonic Sex" a semi-factual biographical movie based on the semi-factual autobiographical book written by the former Japanese porn idol and later television personality, Ai Iijima (飯島愛)。
