Moulin Rouge

Lautrec was an alcoholic, possibly addicted to absinthe. He spent a lot of time painting posters at and for the Moulin Rouge cabaret. He really liked it there. When he left for a spell and longed to return, he realized that "Absinthe makes the heart grow fonder."
.
Some of his models did not always appreciate his depictions of them or their wardrobes. One model was upset that she was painted in a saggy baggy dress that made her look frumpy. She wanted more of a shapely, corseted, tighter fitting outfit to show off her curves and she complained. Henri asked, "What is the matter with the dress?" She said, "It's too loose, Lautrec!"
.
When I told those stories at the MFA exhibit, I was escorted out and banned from the premises until the exhibition is over.

Lautrec did not just paint pictures of les madames de la nuit but he visited them on a professional level, as well. He died, possibly of alcoholism and syphilis at the age of 36.

Just came from an exhibit of this turn of the last century French artist and found that he did a plethora of paintings of madames de la nuit  who were limned doing their day to day chores such as bathing, dressing, doing laundry, and making up beds.   Henri apparently got permission to bivouac in a number of brothels and took various forms of inspiration from les femmes.     The pictures portray a poignant side to the demi-monde and are quite enjoyable.  There are many other aspects of the artist's work displayed as well.

If you are in Boston check it out at the Museum of Fine Arts up to 8/3.

Check your local art museum to see if the display is headed your way.

It was not the puns that bothered me, but the fact you got them off before I did.

Anyhoo....

Henri got dealt a mean hand at birth.   His parents were first cousins and both his maternal grandmothers were sisters.
Families were pretty close those days.
Henri had very thin bones and both his legs got broken when he was young, and the doctors ended up removing a lot of the bone which led to his low to the ground physique.
He tried to sue the doctors for malpractice but the judge told him. hey, wait, put that club down, eeek...

His photographs of the prostitutes of New Orleans' famed Storyville district are wonderful. The movie "Pretty Baby" starring Susan Sarandon and a very young Brooke Shields was about Bellocq.

There were only four of these ladies that I did not consider Too Fat to Fuck."

Why am I NOT surprised YOU know of a website called "Dangerous Minds."  Lol

Let me put it this way, NONE of the women pictured remind me in the least of a young Brooke Shields. More like an "old Susan Sarandon" and to tell the truth, I never really found even a young Susan Sarandon particularly attractive, but I will concede she's a very talented actress.

the only reason I picked that source was because it showed the most Bellocq photos.  As for how many were fuckable, you are FAR too generous. There is actually not one I'd fuck. I thought you had higher standards. lol

but speaking for myself at least, I do have standards. That said, I am beginning to worry a bit about CDL's standards after that ill advised statement.

The first thing that caught my eye in the photos was how rotund some of them were.  I did NOT say any were fuckable.  I only said which ones were "too fat to fuck."  If I go back and use another disqualifier, such as "too ugly to fuck,"  some, if not all, of the rest would be eliminated for THAT reason.  My standards are just fine.  My SB gained 3 pounds in the past two weeks, going from 98 to 101, and I tactfully called her on it last night.  She will diet this week.  Any questions?

I "might" buy your story, But do you REALLY think Jake is going to buy it? He's more likely to vote for another certain whore monger (who happens to have good taste) for POTUS in 2020 than he is to cut you the slightest slack on this, and I know if you are being honest you would have to concede that you would do the exact same thing to him if the situation where reversed.

BTW parsing words is what Jake and IMP do when caught saying something incredibly stupid, I sincerely hope you don't try that weak defense yourself. I do expect better from you. (But I suppose you have to say "something" to try to defend yourself, no matter how weak it sounds. ROFL)

I recall Jake getting this very same advice not long ago. "Just take the L and move on" we will forget about it eventually. lol

I'd say no, given your hilarious statement accusing ANYONE else of "parsing words."

You're welcome.

Back in the day prostitutes were even more social outcasts than they are today.  And basically pretty girls didn't need to become prostitutes.   Yeah, life isn't fair.  So it was the outcasts that populated the profession.

Now days with marriage being less common, and the sexual revolution in general, more upscale women are into sex work for the financial benefits and short working hours.

I mean the whole sugar baby tsunami underscores the wide open acceptance and therefore greater number of pretty girls who will go into sex work.

and what about social outcast men?
social outcast men went for whatever was out there walking down the streets. Now they can go for those pretty ones and upscale ones.  But some of us were/are/will be not just social outcast. But we didn't learn how to make real money either.
I'm not complaining. There are the not model type but cute, average looking girls for cheap still.
and then there are the so called crack whores and homeless ones.

But are you sure pretty, upscale women are social outcasts? I think they want to paint them that way, specially in this country.
